Vivo Launches the X500 Series: A New Era in Smartphone Photography
Vivo has officially unveiled its X500 series in China, introducing three new smartphones: the X500, X500 Pro, and X500 Pro Max. Positioned at the apex of this lineup, the Pro Max packs the most powerful hardware, promising an exceptional user experience.
Innovative Chipsets Powering Performance
The X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max stand out as the first smartphones to feature MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro chipset, while the standard X500 employs the Dimensity 9600M, essentially a rebadged iteration of last year’s Dimensity 9500. This progression in processing power signals Vivo’s commitment to delivering superior performance in mobile technology.
Camera Excellence: The Core of the X500 Lineup
Camera technology is at the forefront of the new X500 series. The X500 Pro and Pro Max share a custom 24mm equivalent 50MP main camera that leverages Sony’s advanced LYTIA L910 sensor, which measures 1/1.28 inches. Developed in conjunction with Vivo, this sensor features a Zeiss T* coating, a fixed f/1.57 aperture, and supports up to 17 EV dynamic range. Notably, the Pro Max enhances this with “gimbal-grade” 3-degree optical image stabilization (OIS), ensuring improved photo stability and clarity.
The X500 Pro employs the same primary camera but incorporates a lesser 1.5-degree OIS. Both Pro models also introduce dedicated telephoto cameras for superior long-range shots. The Pro Max houses an 85mm equivalent 200MP periscope telephoto camera utilizing Samsung’s ISOCELL HP0 sensor, which features a sizeable 1/1.4-inch sensor along with CIPA 7.0 pro-grade stabilization. Both Pro versions can utilize the optional 400mm Zeiss Telephoto Extender Gen 2 Ultra.
The main camera configuration of the standard X500 features a different approach with a 23mm equivalent 50MP main camera using the LYTIA 828 sensor, measuring 1/1.28 inches, coupled with a 72mm equivalent 64MP telephoto option. The X500 also includes a 50MP ultrawide camera utilizing Samsung’s ISOCELL JN1 sensor, showcasing a capable triple-camera setup despite its more affordable status in the series.
Video Recording Capabilities
Video recording is another strong suit in the Pro models, supporting 4K video at an impressive 240fps, allowing for cinematic slow-motion footage. Furthermore, the X500 Pro Max supports 8K video recording at 30fps, with both Pro devices capable of capturing 10-bit video with 422 encoding. They also include support for the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES), facilitating premier color management in video production.
Display Technology: Immersive Experiences
Display specifications are shared among both Pro models, featuring LTPO AMOLED screens with 2K resolution and a smooth 144Hz refresh rate. The X500 Pro sports a smaller 6.36-inch display, while the Pro Max impressively scales up to a 6.85-inch panel. Both displays utilize Q11 technology from BOE and achieve peak brightness levels of up to 4,500 nits. The standard X500 sits comfortably in between the two, featuring a 6.59-inch AMOLED panel with 2K resolution and peak brightness reaching 4,000 nits.
Battery Life and Additional Features
Battery capacity varies across models. The X500 Pro Max boasts an impressive 8,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, while the X500 Pro houses a 6,510mAh cell, and the standard X500 offers a 7,500mAh battery. All models support rapid 90W wired charging alongside 40W wireless charging, ensuring swift power replenishment. Furthermore, they carry IP68 and IP69 ingress protection ratings, underscoring their durability. The software experience is managed through OriginOS 7, based on Android 17.
Pricing and Availability
The vivo X500 is available in white, gray, and black finishes, with the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant starting at CNY 5,499 (approximately $821). The Pro models come in additional colors, including orange, with the X500 Pro starting at CNY 6,499 ($970) and the Pro Max beginning at CNY 6,999 ($1,045). Open sales in China are set to commence on September 24, but Vivo has yet to disclose any global launch plans or international pricing for the X500 series.
