Samsung Galaxy A57 vs A56: A Detailed Comparison

If you are in the market for a mid-range smartphone, it’s almost impossible not to stumble upon Samsung’s Galaxy A lineup. With the recent release of the Samsung Galaxy A57, many prospective buyers may wonder whether the Galaxy A56 remains a more sensible choice, especially given the modest hardware upgrades in the newer model. After all, the Galaxy A56 is still relevant in the market and typically offered at a lower price.

Size Comparison

The Galaxy A57 follows the design evolution seen in the more premium S series phones, boasting a lighter and thinner profile compared to its predecessor. The A57’s dimensions make it slightly narrower and shorter, which might contribute to the impression of thinner bezels, even without altering the screen size.

The A57 is also upgraded to an IP68 rating, surpassing the A56’s IP67 protection, while both devices maintain Gorilla Glass Victus+ to safeguard their screens and backs.

Display Comparison

When it comes to displays, the Galaxy A57 and A56 are virtually identical. Tests indicate that both devices perform similarly in terms of brightness and clarity. Although Samsung markets the A57 with a new Super AMOLED+ display, the implementation remains quite similar to its predecessor, utilizing a regular RGB subpixel matrix instead of a more advanced Diamond Pentile matrix. Therefore, in practical usage, the differences are negligible to the average user.

Battery Life

The newer model does show an edge in battery endurance tests, likely attributed to either the newer chipset or software optimizations. The A57 excels in screen-on time, especially for video streaming. However, the A56 performs better during 4G calls, indicating a slight trade-off in performance based on usage type.

Charging Speed

Charging speeds remain virtually indistinguishable between the two models. Both support 45W fast charging with a 5,000 mAh battery, and any differences in charging times are minimal—around a mere 4 minutes.

Speaker Test

Audio output is another area of slight improvement. Both devices feature similarly rated speakers, but the A57 delivers clearer sound and crisper vocals, although the bass is somewhat less prominent compared to the A56.

Performance

The Galaxy A57 introduces an upgraded Exynos 1680 chipset, which provides a noticeable performance boost over the Exynos 1580 in the A56. Benchmark results show a 13% increase in CPU performance, and a nearly 30% improvement in GPU performance, especially in graphics-heavy tasks.

Benchmark Performance

In pure performance metrics, the gap between the two models suggests that the A57 is indeed faster, though whether this translates to a significantly different user experience remains open to interpretation.

Camera Comparison

Both devices boast a triple-camera system that resembles each other closely, featuring a primary camera with a 1/1.56″ sensor and an ultrawide lens. Although the Galaxy A57 has yet to disclose its camera specifications, initial findings show that the two devices produce similar image quality under various conditions. Daylight shots yield vibrant colors and good dynamic range. The A57 may offer slight benefits in low-light scenarios, improving dynamic range and color representation.

Selfies and Video Quality

When it comes to selfies, both phones perform admirably, delivering excellent detail and color fidelity. Video quality also highlights minor distinctions, with daylight footage appearing almost identical but showing slight advantages in low-light conditions for the A57.

Verdict

The Galaxy A57 offers some incremental improvements over the A56—like a thinner design, longer battery life, and enhanced audio quality. However, the A56 remains a compelling choice for consumers prioritizing budget over marginal advancements.

For users in the European market, the price difference of around €70 may justify choosing the A57. Conversely, in regions like the U.S., where the A56 is approximately $200 less expensive, it could emerge as the wiser choice.

Reasons to Choose the Samsung Galaxy A57:

  • More powerful chipset.
  • Improved photo quality.
  • Enhanced speaker performance.
  • Better overall battery life.
  • Thinner and lighter design.

Reasons to Choose the Samsung Galaxy A56:

  • Lower price point.
  • Similar overall user experience.
