Xbox fans finally received exciting news during the recent Xbox Games Showcase 2026 recap. Microsoft has confirmed that Xbox console exclusives are making a triumphant return! Two highly anticipated titles, Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution, will be Xbox console exclusives, and importantly, these are not just timed exclusives. This means they will not be available on PlayStation at any point in time following their release.
Xbox Swings Back at PlayStation with Gears
In a bold move echoing Sony’s recent announcement that its first-party titles will remain exclusive to PlayStation, Xbox has raised the stakes. The most prominent title in this new strategy is undoubtedly Gears of War: E-Day, which is slated to launch on October 6, 2026. This prequel to the beloved franchise will be available across several platforms including Xbox Series X/S, Xbox on PC, cloud gaming, Game Pass, and Xbox Play Anywhere. Notably, Steam is also among the platforms listed for gameplay accessibility.
The focus on console exclusivity is significant, especially since the previous title, Gears of War: Reloaded, had crossed over to PlayStation, leading many to speculate whether E-Day would follow. Microsoft has definitively positioned E-Day as an Xbox exclusive, at least for the foreseeable future.
Set 14 years before the events of the original Gears of War, the game will feature iconic protagonists Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as they confront the initial emergence of the Locust Horde. To add to the excitement, preorders for the title include early access to the Gears of War: E-Day Open Beta, which begins on August 6, 2026.
Clockwork Revolution: Another Piece of Xbox’s Strategy
The second significant announcement from the showcase is concerning Clockwork Revolution, a steampunk, time-bending first-person RPG developed by inXile Entertainment. Slated for release in 2027, it will also be available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox on PC, cloud, Game Pass, Xbox Play Anywhere, and Steam.

This immersive RPG allows players to inhabit the role of Morgan Vanette, who will navigate a narrative centered around altering the past to carve out a new future for Avalon, a city renowned for its industrial marvels yet ruled by the tyrannical Lady Ironwood. Fans have likened its aesthetic and thematic elements to Bioshock Infinite, but the developers aim to establish Clockwork Revolution as a uniquely rich RPG experience.
Despite the focus on exclusives, Microsoft is not completely abandoning the multiplatform landscape. For instance, Halo: Campaign Evolved is set to release on both PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
