Samsung Launches Robotics eXperience (RX) Division
Samsung Electronics is set to make significant strides in the field of robotics with the establishment of its Robotics eXperience (RX) Business Promotion Office. This division, spearheaded by CEO TM Roh, aims to bring together and enhance Samsung’s existing robotic research and development initiatives.
Leadership and Strategic Focus
At the helm of the Robotics Strategy Team will be Lee Dong-geon, a former leader of robot strategies at Boston Dynamics during his tenure with Hyundai. The RX division will be headquartered at Samsung’s Seoul R&D Campus located in Umyeon-dong. To bolster its global reach, Samsung plans to establish research hubs in prominent tech regions including the United States, China, and Japan.
Industrial Robotics as a Starting Point
Samsung’s initial focus will revolve around industrial robots, aimed at employing advanced robotics for automating its manufacturing processes. This approach is intended to serve as a proving ground before extending these robotic solutions to other manufacturers. By 2030, Samsung envisions transforming all its manufacturing facilities into “AI autonomous factories,” a significant move that reflects a forward-thinking approach to innovation in manufacturing.
Venturing into Humanoid Robotics
The technology giant is also exploring the development of humanoid robots. Kim Eui-gyeom, a professor at Ajou University renowned for his expertise in robotic hands and manipulation, has recently joined the RX team. Notably, Samsung already operates a Robotic Hand Lab that has reportedly developed advanced, though undisclosed, technologies for robotic hands, marking a commitment to innovation in this field.

Investment and Competitive Landscape
Samsung is positioning itself strategically within the robotics sector by investing in robotics startups and proactively seeking partnerships through mergers and acquisitions. Recently, the company became the largest shareholder in Rainbow Robotics, known for its innovative robotic products, including a robo dog showcased in promotional materials.
The competition in the robotics realm is intensifying, with significant players such as Tesla unveiling its Optimus robot and LG announcing its own Robotics Business Center. Meanwhile, companies like Honor and Unitree are making headlines with their robotic innovations, enhancing the competitive landscape that Samsung is entering.
With its holistic approach to robotics, Samsung shows potential to lead in an industry ripe for growth and technological transformation.
