Circular has just added blood pressure monitoring to the Circular Ring 2. This follows the announcement of the Circular Ring 3, which was revealed at IFA 2026, although its release date remains unspecified.
The Circular Ring 2 Can Now Measure Your Blood Pressure
With the new update, the Circular Ring 2 enables users to measure systolic and diastolic blood pressure conveniently from their finger. Circular claims that the entire process can be completed in around 60 seconds, streamlining the user experience significantly.
Unlike traditional blood pressure cuffs, the design of the Circular Ring 2 means it won’t apply pressure on your artery. Instead, it captures both ECG and PPG signals to calculate Pulse Wave Transit Time (PWTT). This method measures how fast the pulse wave generated by each heartbeat travels to the finger, which provides crucial data regarding the stiffness and pressure of the arteries. Generally, pulse waves travel faster when the arteries are stiffer.
For accurate results, users are required to take three initial blood pressure readings using a conventional cuff. These readings should then be entered into the accompanying Circular app, establishing a personalized calibration baseline. This careful calibration is essential for ensuring that subsequent blood pressure estimates are reliable and accurate.
Quick and Easy Blood Pressure Monitoring
After completing the calibration process, users can monitor their blood pressure directly using the Circular Ring 2 without needing a cuff each time. Circular recommends refreshing this calibration every 30 days to maintain the accuracy of the readings.
To take a blood pressure measurement, a user needs to place a finger from the opposite hand on the ring. This action completes the ECG circuit and allows the device to capture data from 20 consecutive high-quality heartbeats. The combination of ECG and PPG data enables the Circular Ring 2 to generate a comprehensive reading efficiently.
Importantly, the blood pressure measurement function is now integrated into the Circular app at no additional cost, and it does not require a subscription. Circular advises that while the feature is designed to assist users in tracking their health trends, it is not a substitute for professional medical diagnosis or treatment guidance.
