SoftBank’s Ambitious €75 Billion Investment in French Data Centers
SoftBank Group announced today that it plans to spend up to €75 billion (around $87 billion) to expand data center capacity in France.
The investment aims to develop and operate an impressive 5 gigawatts of additional data center capacity, underscoring SoftBank’s commitment to bolstering its presence in the European tech landscape.
The Initial Phase: Locations and Capacity Goals
In the first phase of this extensive plan, SoftBank will focus on constructing data centers in key locations including Dunkirk (Loon-Plage), Bosquel, and Bouchain. This first phase is projected to deliver 3.1 gigawatts of capacity to the Hauts-de-France region by 2031, providing enhanced infrastructure for the burgeoning AI sector.
