Momentic Raises $15 Million to Revolutionize Software Testing with AI

On Monday, the AI testing startup Momentic announced that it had raised $15 million in a Series A funding round, led by Standard Capital and supported by Dropbox Ventures. Returning investors from Y Combinator, FCVC, Transpose Platform, and Karman Ventures also contributed to the round. This new financing builds upon their earlier $3.7 million seed round announced in March.
Innovative AI Solutions for Software Testing
Momentic specializes in tools for software testing and verification, competing with established open-source frameworks like Playwright and Selenium. While those tools offer complex control options, Momentic leverages AI to streamline and simplify the testing process.
“We help our customers make sure their product works,” co-founder Wei-Wei Wu stated. “They can describe their critical user flows in plain English, and our AI will automate it.” This focus on user-friendliness sets Momentic apart in a complex field.
Founders with Experience
Wu and his co-founder Jeff An possess strong backgrounds in developer tools from notable companies like Qualtrics and WeWork. Wu is particularly known for his contributions to the open-source Node.js project, highlighting their expertise in addressing common pain points in software development.
“Testing has been the biggest pain point for every team I’ve ever worked with,” Wu told TechCrunch, reflecting the pivotal role of effective testing in software development.
Client Base and Performance
Momentic’s AI-driven approach has gained traction, attracting around 2,600 users, including notable companies like Notion, Xero, Bilt, Webflow, and Retool. While Wu did not disclose specifics regarding revenue and profitability, he emphasized sufficient growth to attract investor confidence.
Scaling Automation Efficiently
One of the key advantages of automating tests is the ability to execute them at scale. Wu noted that Momentic’s automation achieved over 200 million test steps in just the last month, showcasing the power of AI in handling large volumes of testing.
Competitive Landscape
While Momentic is carving its niche, it faces stiff competition from large AI models like those from OpenAI and Anthropic, which provide resources on agentic testing. As these models evolve, the competitive landscape for enterprise SaaS companies like Momentic may become more challenging.
Future Developments
For now, Wu is keen on expanding Momentic’s capabilities with the newly acquired funds. The company has recently launched support for mobile environments and aims to improve test-case management functionalities as they grow their engineering team.

Wu believes the increase in automated coding will result in a surge of new applications, thereby escalating the need for quality assurance tools like his. “All of these apps need testing,” he asserts. “They care about quality, and we’re going to provide it for them.”
