However, Apple has just announced some significant price hikes for a variety of its products, including the MacBook Neo ($699 / £699 / AU$1,049, up from $599 / £599 / AU$899), MacBook Air M5 ($1,299 / £1,299 / AU$2,099, up from $1,099 / £1,099 / AU$1,799), and the 14-inch MacBook Pro M5 ($1,999 / £1,999 / AU$3,199, up from $1,699 / £1,699 / AU$2,699).
These increases, especially for the MacBook Air, are substantial and make it much harder to justify its purchase. The MacBook Neo also transitions from a clear must-have to a more questionable investment.
Market Competition and Consumer Choices
The problem for Apple is that these price hikes arrive amid a surge in innovation from its Windows 11 competitors, who are steadily rolling out outstanding alternatives. This shift means that many of them now represent better value propositions during crucial sales events like Amazon Prime Day.
The reason behind Apple’s price increases is tied to a global memory shortage, a challenge that also affects many Windows 11 laptops. However, with a vast array of laptops available from various manufacturers in the Windows ecosystem, consumers now have more choices to explore.
