Introducing the Huawei Watch GT Runner 2
The Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 is brimming with innovative features, making it a top choice for runners seeking accuracy. With a sleek design, it’s the best running watch I’ve tested in 2026. Unfortunately, US customers often overlook Huawei devices, but their stellar hardware merits attention.
Design and Build Quality
GPS Performance Comparison
The GPS capabilities are where the GT Runner 2 shines. Huawei asserts that this model outperforms competitors like the Garmin Forerunner 970 in GPS accuracy, utilizing a new dual-floating GPS antenna design. While I didn’t have the Forerunner 970 for comparison, I tested it against the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro—widely regarded as one of Garmin’s top models, retailing at three times the price of the GT Runner 2.
On a 10.5 kilometer out-and-back run, the Fenix 8 Pro recorded 10.51 km with 797 calories burned, an average heart rate of 157 bpm, and a pace of 5.39 km. The Huawei GT Runner 2 registered 10.48 km, just a 0.03 km (or 30 meters) difference, with 785 calories burned, an average heart rate of 167 bpm, and the same pace of 5.39 km. These results indicate remarkable accuracy.
Both watches reported a stride length of 1.10 meters, showcasing their ability to deliver comparable advanced running metrics. This performance relieves any concerns regarding the accuracy of a watch endorsed by record-breaking marathoner Eliud Kipchoge.

Health and Fitness Tracking Features
Other wellness metrics also impress. Huawei’s TruSense and TruSleep algorithms have previously been noted for their accuracy, and the GT Runner 2 continues this trend. Sleep tracking is stellar, and the watch’s lightweight design makes it comfortable for overnight wear. The Marathon Mode features intelligent coaching and training plans integrated from the Huawei Health app. Additionally, the battery life is commendable, with some users reporting up to 14 days.
However, features like Emotional Wellbeing that rely on self-reporting tend to be less useful.
Smart Features and Compatibility Concerns
The design, performance, and health features are commendable, yet smart functionalities present challenges. Huawei’s inability to integrate seamlessly with Google or Android ecosystems limits its smart capabilities. This disconnect leaves the device acting more as a stand-alone wellness tool rather than a fully integrated smartwatch experience.
Although Huawei claims the watch “runs seamlessly with iOS and Android,” this isn’t entirely accurate. While I could receive WhatsApp notifications through Huawei’s Message Tool, I couldn’t access a native app. The absence of first-party apps like Spotify forced me to use Petal Maps instead of the preferable Google or Apple Maps, resulting in a frustrating user experience.

Final Thoughts on the Huawei Watch GT Runner 2
£349.99 in the UK / Europe
Not available in the US / AU
Cheaper than most modern Forerunner watches
Huawei’s availability continues to hinder its uptake, particularly in the US due to ongoing 5G restrictions. For UK consumers, however, the price of £349.99 is competitive, comparable to that of the Apple Watch Series 11.
