Former OpenAI executive Mira Murati’s startup, Thinking Machines Lab, has signed a new multi-billion-dollar agreement to expand its use of Google Cloud’s AI infrastructure, including systems powered by Nvidia’s latest GPUs, TechCrunch has exclusively learned.
This landmark deal, valued in the single-digit billions, allows Thinking Machines to access Google’s cutting-edge AI systems built on Nvidia’s latest GB300 chips. Furthermore, it includes essential infrastructure services necessary for model training and deployment.
Context of Google’s Strategy in AI Cloud Services
Google has actively pursued cloud partnerships with AI developers, aiming to integrate its cloud offerings with additional services, such as storage solutions, a Kubernetes engine, and its Spanner database product. Earlier this month, another key player in the AI landscape, Anthropic, secured a significant agreement with Google and Broadcom for multiple gigawatts of tensor processing unit (TPU) capacity—custom-designed chips that enhance machine learning workloads.
