Chen Yanshun, chairman of BOE, emphasized the company’s commitment to meet the increasing demand for high-quality displays, both domestically and internationally. He stated, “We will meet the growing demand for premium displays from customers in China and overseas and become a trusted partner through advanced technologies and high-quality products.”

The Factory’s Capacity and First Products

This cutting-edge factory boasts a remarkable monthly production capacity of 32,000 substrates, large glass slabs from which multiple OLED panels can be cut. This increased efficiency not only reduces manufacturing waste but also lowers overall costs, ultimately benefiting consumers.

The inaugural product from the assembly line was a 14-inch OLED panel for Lenovo notebooks featuring a stunning 2.8K resolution, further illustrating BOE’s ambitious start.

Competitive Landscape: A Challenge to LG and Samsung

The introduction of BOE’s Generation 8.6 panels is a game-changer in the competitive OLED market. With the capacity to produce much larger substrates, BOE can create more screens from single sheets, decreasing costs and potentially leading to lower prices for consumers. This heightened competition stands to challenge the market dominance of LG and Samsung, two major players in the OLED display sector.

As the industry prepares for a shift, it’s essential to note that BOE’s new panels do not compromise on quality. The company is not only focused on affordability but is also producing a tandem OLED design, which has the potential to increase longevity—lasting three to four times longer than traditional single-layer panels—and enhance power efficiency by consuming 20% to 30% less energy. Such advantages are particularly crucial for portable devices where battery life is a significant concern.
