Asus Zenbook 14 (2026): Two-minute review

The new Asus Zenbook 14 is designed to be an ultra-portable device with a mid-range price that doesn’t compromise on performance. The sleek design offers a unique finish that diverges from the usual offerings in this price bracket, featuring a soft texture and vibrant colorways.

One of the standout features is its remarkable build quality, which combines strength and lightweight materials. Despite its portability, the Zenbook 14 is among the best in construction for similar 14-inch laptops. However, while the overall design is appealing, it’s not the thinnest model available, and the thick feet underneath can add some bulk. The keyboard’s tendency to flex can be disconcerting during typing as well.

  • Asus Zenbook 14 (2026) at ASUS for £1,299.99

The Zenbook 14’s port selection, while not extensive, includes a USB-A, two USB-C ports (both supporting power delivery and display signals), an HDMI output, and a headphone jack. This makes the device a reliable for everyday tasks, including basic productivity, browsing, and 4K streaming. However, it struggles with light gaming, given its absence of a dedicated GPU.

Performance, during intensive tasks, remains controlled with the fans operating quietly, and temperatures staying impressively cool—only a few hotspots occur away from commonly touched surfaces. Its 1920 x 1200p OLED display delivers sharp visuals and sufficient brightness, though reflections can be an issue at times.

Battery life, however, is a significant drawback. During a continuous movie loop, it lasted just over 12 hours—impressive but trailing behind competitors like the Zenbook A14, which more than doubled this figure in the same test.

Asus Zenbook 14 (2026) review: Price & availability

  • Starts from £799.99 (about $1,080 / AU$1,500)
  • Preorders open now (ships September)
  • Some rivals offer better value

The Zenbook 14 starts from £799.99 (about $1,080 / AU$1,500) and is available for pre-order now, with shipments expected early to late September. The base model features a Qualcomm Snapdragon X1 CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a 50Wh battery. More powerful options with AMD Ryzen and Intel Core CPUs, both carrying larger batteries, are available for pre-order at higher price points. Capable alternatives do exist at similar pricing, including the Asus Zenbook A14 and the HP OmniBook 7.

Asus Zenbook 14 (2026) review: Design

  • Light and strong body
  • Unique finish
  • Reasonable port selection

The unique Ceraluminum body certainly sets the Zenbook 14 apart, enhanced by the vibrant color options. The beige finish on the review unit contrasts with the often monochromatic designs, appearing softer and inviting. The rounded corners and textured material add comfort and grip.

Weighting in at around 2.5 pounds, the Zenbook 14 offers exceptional portability for a 14-inch laptop, but it’s not the slimmest option available, carrying a bit of bulk at the rear due to the feet design. Despite this, the device provides superior solidity, with minimal flex on both the base and the lid. The keyboard, however, has some flex during typing, which can detract from the overall experience.

The Zenbook 14 has a reasonable port selection, including a USB-A, two USB-C ports (both supporting external displays and power delivery), an HDMI port, and a headset jack. However, the absence of a backlit keyboard is a noticeable omission that may disappoint some users.

Asus Zenbook 14 (2026) review: Performance

  • Fast everyday performance
  • Vivid but reflective display
  • Good for typing

For everyday tasks, the Zenbook 14 holds its own with impressive performance, particularly from the Snapdragon X1 processor. This chip handles basic productivity applications and 4K streaming with ease. However, if you’re looking to do some light gaming, expect unsatisfactory results—titles like Cyberpunk 2077 struggled even at low settings.

Fan noise is noticeable under load, but given the compact design, the Zenbook 14 excels at keeping temperatures down during intense use, with only minimal areas becoming warm, such as above the keyboard.

The 1200p OLED display offers a crisp viewing experience with vivid colors, although reflections can sometimes be distracting. Thankfully, high brightness levels generally combat this issue effectively. While the keyboard suffers from flex under pressure, it is reasonably comfortable for typing, complemented by a responsive touchpad that extends nicely to maximize usability.

Asus Zenbook 14 (2026) review: Battery life

  • Middling longevity compared to rivals
  • Zenbook A14 massively outlasts it
  • Quick to charge

Battery performance is average at best. The 50Wh battery rated at just over 12 hours during a video loop test falls short against rivals boasting significantly longer runtimes. For reference, the Zenbook A14 has a 70Wh battery and managed over 28 hours in the same test. Fortunately, the Zenbook 14 charges quickly, reaching full capacity in about two hours.

Similarly priced rivals are better all-round propositions.

3 / 5

Design

The construction is unique, super light, and high in quality, but the flexing keyboard is a small shame.

4.5 / 5

Performance

Great for everyday tasking, but don’t expect more beyond that. It remains remarkably cool and quiet at all times, though.

4 / 5

Battery Life

The Zenbook 14 can last a while, but it’s disappointingly short lived compared to rivals. It’s quick to charge, though.

3.5 / 5

Final Score

The Zenbook 14 is a capable and highly portable laptop, but when rivals occupying same price point are better all-rounders, they might make more sense.
