Garmin’s Latest Beta Updates for Wearables

If you’re the proud owner of one of the best Garmin smartwatches, you’ll be glad to hear that the company is rolling out a range of updates to keep its devices running smoothly. Garmin has launched several new beta updates that aim to enhance user experience through new features and bug fixes. These updates are available for a broad spectrum of Garmin’s products, including both affordable and premium smartwatches. They follow closely on the heels of another recent update that brought Lifestyle Logging to Garmin Connect.

One issue that has caught the attention of some users, particularly those with the Garmin Vivoactive 6 smartwatch, is a concerning battery drain. If you’re experiencing similar issues, it might be time to look for the version 15.05 update. Notebookcheck has reported insights from Garmin’s forums indicating that this update appears to address the battery draining problem. Interestingly, Garmin has not officially announced this update, as it seems to be a beta version currently rolling out to select users.

Alongside the battery drain fix, there are a couple of intriguing new features included in the 15.05 beta update. Users have noted that the update seemingly allows access to the Morning and Evening Reports directly from the Notification Center. Additionally, a new gesture has been introduced that enables you to exit a smart notification by simply placing your hand over the watch’s screen.

Signing Up for the Beta Update

While Garmin has yet to officially recognize this update, those eager to test it out should consider signing up for the public beta. Detailed instructions for participation can be found in our guide here.

Enhancements for Premium Devices

The Vivoactive 6 is not alone in receiving much-needed bug fixes; Garmin’s high-end smartwatches, including the Fenix 8 and Tactix 8, have also benefitted from updates. The version 20.07 update contains four new features, according to Garmin. These include a cycling VO2 Max watch face complication, support for GPI files, and a new feature allowing automatic touch lock and unlock when touch is enabled for strength training sessions. Additionally, the update enables touch access to the keyboard layout menu via drag.

Garmin also states that the update encompasses over 30 tweaks and bug fixes aimed at improving performance. Issues such as crashes, lag, black screens, and faulty features have all been addressed. A full list of changes is available on Garmin’s website for those who wish to dive deeper.

Like the previous update, this has also been released as part of Garmin’s beta program. Therefore, interested users need to sign up to obtain it. However, caution is advised, as beta updates can sometimes contain bugs that may affect device functionality.

Whether you own a premium Garmin wearable or one of the company’s more budget-friendly models, these updates promise to bring noteworthy benefits. With improvements targeting both performance and usability, they should resolve many issues that users have encountered.
