According to reports from Notebookcheck, a leaked image by well-known informant Evan Blass (evleaks on X) reveals that the Lenovo Legion Go 2 will feature Valve’s SteamOS. This indicates that at least one variant of the device will run on this increasingly popular operating system, following the footsteps of its predecessor, the Lenovo Legion Go S, which offered AMD Ryzen Z2 Go and Ryzen Z1 Extreme SteamOS models.

Valve’s SteamOS Gains Traction

The inclusion of SteamOS in the Lenovo Legion Go 2 is noteworthy, especially considering the operating system’s growing popularity among handheld devices. Many gamers appreciate SteamOS for its user-friendly interface and compatibility with a vast library of games, which is likely a key factor in Lenovo’s confidence in the platform for their new device.

Initially previewed at CES 2025 as a prototype, the Legion Go 2 appears to retain the same ergonomic design seen in the recent leaked images and will likely continue to utilize AMD’s new Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor. Lenovo’s legacy of innovation and focus on gaming is evident as they aim to diversify their offerings in the handheld market.

While SteamOS will likely be an option, Lenovo is also expected to include Microsoft’s Windows 11 as the primary operating system on one or more models of the Legion Go 2. This dual approach enables Lenovo to cater to a broader audience of gamers who prefer different ecosystems. Notably, Lenovo stands out as one of the few mainstream manufacturers to have some of its handheld devices officially licensed for SteamOS, a trend that could potentially encourage other manufacturers to embrace this operating system for their devices as well.

Competing Landscape: ROG Xbox Ally X

In addition to the excitement surrounding Lenovo, the handheld market is heating up with the upcoming release of the ROG Xbox Ally X from Asus and Microsoft. This device will offer a new ‘full-screen experience’ on Windows 11, mimicking the user-friendly environment that SteamOS presents. The introduction of this experience aims to enhance the handheld gaming landscape, offering competition to Valve’s SteamOS as players seek the best portable gaming options.

As Microsoft’s Xbox platform continues to evolve, it will be intriguing to see how these innovations stack up against each other in the handheld gaming market in the coming year.

Excitement for the Future

The evolution of handheld gaming devices is an exciting prospect, especially with Lenovo and Valve pushing boundaries. The potential integration of SteamOS into the Lenovo Legion Go 2 not only showcases innovation but also paves the way for other manufacturers, such as Asus or MSI, to consider adopting SteamOS for their devices. The inclusion of this OS could revolutionize how players experience portable gaming, making games more accessible and enjoyable.

In summary, while we await official confirmation, the indications point towards a solid possibility that the Lenovo Legion Go 2 will embrace SteamOS, a move that could reshape handheld gaming. It’s an exciting time for gamers and manufacturers alike, and we can’t wait to see how these developments will unfold in the coming year. To read more about it, click Here.
