Samsung Unveils Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 with Enhanced Support
Yesterday, during its much-anticipated Unpacked event in London, Samsung took the wraps off its latest smartwatches: the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2. A significant highlight of this launch is the company’s commitment to provide both models with five major OS upgrades and five years of security updates, a clear signal of Samsung’s dedication to long-term user support.
Samsung Galaxy Watch9
The Galaxy Watch9 comes in two sizes: 40mm and 44mm. Both models are powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite SoC, ensuring top-tier performance similar to its Ultra counterpart. While the Galaxy Watch9 features the same 2GB of RAM as the Ultra2, it has a slightly lower storage capacity of 32GB. The smaller model is equipped with a 1.34-inch Super AMOLED screen boasting a resolution of 438×438, along with a 390 mAh battery. The larger version features a 1.47-inch Super AMOLED display with a higher resolution of 480×480 and a 445 mAh battery. Notably, both models can reach a peak brightness of 3,000 nits and support wireless charging at 10W.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2
As for the Galaxy Watch Ultra2, it packs a remarkable 1.52-inch Super AMOLED display, with a resolution of 498×498 and an impressive peak brightness of 5,000 nits, all safeguarded by a sapphire crystal. This smartwatch is powered by the same Snapdragon Wear Elite SoC and comes with 2GB of RAM and a substantial 64GB of storage. Constructed with a robust titanium frame, the Ultra2 is rated IP68 and IP69K for dust and water resistance, conforming to MIL-STD-810H standards, making it suitable for diving up to 40 meters. It houses an 800 mAh battery, also supporting wireless charging at 10W.
For users seeking the longest software support, opting for these latest models is essential, as older Samsung Galaxy Watches were previously promised four major OS upgrades and four years of security updates. Samsung has not updated that promise for its older watches.
