Google has recently initiated the rollout of AI Search agents capable of continuously monitoring the web for updates relevant to individual users. This innovative feature was initially revealed during Google I/O 2026 as part of the company’s broader overhaul of its AI Mode, which also introduced a revamped search interface, the powerful Gemini 3.5 Flash, personal intelligence enhancements, and advanced tools for creating mini-apps and dashboards.
The feature is aptly named information agents and is particularly beneficial for inquiries that do not yield a straightforward answer. Instead of repeatedly checking the same query, users can now request Google to track specific topics continuously in the background.
How Google’s AI Search agents work
Information agents operate within Google Search’s AI Mode, allowing users to input prompts that instruct Google to monitor certain subjects, such as products, events, or trends. The agent diligently scans various sources, including online articles, financial data, social media posts, and sports scores, to provide real-time updates.
Information agents in Search are currently accessible in all AI Mode languages and markets specifically for Google AI Ultra subscribers. As Robby Stein noted on June 12, 2026, “Just ask AI Mode to keep you updated on any topic, and your agent will work around the clock on your behalf to send detailed updates and links.”
For instance, users can request updates on flight prices, emerging product launches, job openings in specific fields, housing listings, or developing news stories. Once any pertinent changes occur, Google can send notifications via the Google app.
This feature surpasses traditional alerts in flexibility; users can phrase their requests in natural language rather than adhering strictly to specific keywords. When new information is uncovered, Google sends a concise summary of changes related to the user’s inquiry, accompanied by links for deeper exploration.
Who can use it and where to find it
According to the announcement at I/O 2026, information agents initially launched for Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers. Presently, the rollout begins with AI Ultra users within AI Mode, which starts at $99.99 per month.
To utilize this feature, users should launch AI Mode in Google Search and prompt it to monitor a topic. Commands like “keep me updated on” or “alert me when” can initiate tracking. Once established, users can manage their agents from the AI Mode history, enabling them to adjust or cease tracking as needed.
While the feature shows promising potential, comprehensive real-world testing will be essential to evaluate its performance effectively.
