The Motorola Edge (2026): A Smaller and Surprising Release

After much anticipation, Motorola has surprised fans with the new Motorola Edge (2026). Departing from the trend of larger displays, this model features a compact 6.3” OLED screen, a notable shift from the previous Edge series, which included the Edge (2024) and Edge (2025) with 6.6” and 6.7” displays, respectively. This smaller form factor aims to cater to users seeking a more manageable device without compromising on performance.

New Mid-Range Player in the Market

While the Edge 60 Neo made its mark in Europe last year, it never touched down in the U.S. Now, with the launch of the Edge (2026), Motorola is making its entry into the smaller mid-range segment. Come June 11, the phone will be available unlocked for $600 at Motorola.com and Best Buy, with additional offers rolling out through carriers including AT&T, Cricket Wireless, Spectrum Wireless, and Xfinity Mobile. It will also reach Canadian markets on the same date, with local carriers expected to follow suit.

Display and Performance

The Edge (2026) boasts a 6.3” “Extreme OLED” panel with a sharp 1.5K resolution. Users can expect a smooth experience thanks to the 120Hz refresh rate and bright visuals with up to 5,200 nits of peak brightness. However, the device has received some criticism for its reliance on the Dimensity 7450 chipset. While it offers a modest upgrade over last year’s 7400 model, the performance enhancements may not be enough to excite power users, especially with a storage capacity of only 128GB—half of what was offered in the Edge (2025).

Camera Features

Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the trio of 50MP cameras housed in the device. On the back, users will find a main Lytia 710 sensor offering 4K video recording capabilities, accompanied by another 50MP ultra-wide camera featuring a 122° field of view and Macro Vision mode. Selfie lovers are also covered with a 50MP front-facing camera. Notably, though, the expected update to the telephoto lens has not materialized; it still features a 10MP sensor with a 3x optical zoom, similar to last year.

Battery and Build Quality

Powering the device is a 5,000mAh battery that supports TurboPower charging at 60W wired and 15W wireless. Motorola claims that with the wired option, users can achieve an all-day charge in just 7 minutes. While some might see the battery size as a downgrade compared to the Edge (2025), the reduced screen size should mitigate this concern. The phone sports Corning Gorilla Glass 7i on the front and has impressive resistance ratings of IP68 and IP69 for water and dust protection.

Audio and Accessories

The audio quality is enhanced with stereo speakers that come with Dolby Atmos support. For those who prefer wireless audio solutions, Motorola has launched the Moto Buds 2 alongside the Edge (2026). Featuring Hi-Res Audio certification and dual-driver design, these earbuds support Dolby Atmos spatial sound and a low-latency Gaming Mode, making them a solid companion for mobile gaming.

Offering impressive active noise cancellation and a battery life of up to 48 hours with the charging case, the Moto Buds 2 will be available a month later for $100.

Conclusion

The Motorola Edge (2026) presents an intriguing option for those preferring a smaller device without sacrificing many high-end features. However, the significant shifts in hardware and storage may deter some users. Overall, its combination of advanced display technology, camera capabilities, and robust battery features will certainly attract attention in the mid-range market.
