Volkswagen recently made waves by skipping the 2026 model year for its highly anticipated ID.Buzz electric bus, prompting discussions about its future in the electric vehicle (EV) market. However, the automaker quelled fears by officially confirming the arrival of the 2027 ID.Buzz, showcasing its commitment to the electric bus segment.
This new model is set to arrive with significant updates, indicating that Volkswagen has paid close attention to feedback from early owners and reviewers. A standout addition is the Tourer 4Motion trim, designed to transform the ID.Buzz into a versatile electric camper, perfect for adventure seekers and road trips.

What’s new in the 2027 ID.Buzz lineup?
The new Tourer trim draws inspiration from the European “Good Night Package” and introduces a host of features that enhance its camping capability. Key additions include a fold-out mattress that fits on a dedicated platform, window blinds for privacy, and front ventilation panels to keep the inside comfortable. It also incorporates a stowable outdoor table and chairs, making it easier for users to enjoy nature.
A noteworthy feature is the Overnight Mode, which optimizes lighting, climate control, and power management to create a conducive sleeping environment. Additional enhancements consist of a retractable tow hitch, second-row captain’s chairs, an electrochromic panoramic sunroof, 360-degree cameras, and striking 20-inch dark graphite wheels.
Beyond the Tourer, the entire 2027 ID.Buzz collection will receive crucial updates. A NACS adapter is now included, giving owners easy access to Tesla Supercharger stations without dealing with separate purchases. Additionally, one-pedal driving is now standard across all variants, enhancing the overall driving experience.

The 2027 ID.Buzz gets plenty of software updates as well
Volkswagen is also rolling out updated ID.6 infotainment software with the 2027 ID.Buzz. This new system boasts a redesigned navigation interface and additional features such as myQ Connected Garage remote access and TravelAssist with assisted lane changes. For gaming enthusiasts, AirConsole access on the infotainment screen adds an entertaining twist on long trips.
Moreover, the company is offering a one-year free trial of the In-Vehicle Premium subscription, which includes ChatGPT voice assistance, access to over 30,000 radio stations, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. However, potential buyers should note that the color options are limited to a two-tone scheme, featuring a new Candy White over Cherry Red combination.
Interestingly, Volkswagen has yet to disclose pricing or range specifics for the 2027 ID.Buzz. The previous model, the 2025 ID.Buzz, ranged from $60,000 to $70,000, with EPA-rated distances of 234 miles for the rear-wheel-drive version and 231 miles for the all-wheel-drive variant.
