Alderman’s unique position allowed her to buy back the game due to a clause in her original contract—a strategic move that isn’t common for many developers. Additionally, she financed the acquisition through her work as an accomplished novelist and a bank loan.

Currently, Alderman’s approach to the Zombies, Run! team is intentionally streamlined. Unlike the typical expansion goals of many tech companies, her focus is on building a sustainable business that values community and connection. This ethos is embodied in the app’s design, which aims to foster a sense of belonging and cooperation among its users. Plans are in place to introduce smartwatch support for audio playback—a step forward driven by fan feedback.
“I think there are at least as many people out there who haven’t tried Zombies, Run! yet,” Alderman added optimistically. “We’re an apocalypse that’s about getting through by being part of a community and caring about each other. I feel like it’s a message that’s needed now more than ever.”
