The budget phone market moves fast, and Xiaomi knows it. After strong demand for last year’s X7 lineup, the company is back with a bigger push under the full name Xiaomi Poco X8 series. This time, the spotlight falls on a new Max model that blends flagship power with an unusually large battery.

The Xiaomi Poco X8 Pro Max is now the largest X-series device to date. It carries a 6.83-inch OLED display with a 1,280 x 2,772 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The panel supports 12-bit colors, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision.

Brightness is one of its highlights. The screen reaches 2,000 nits in High Brightness Mode and peaks at 3,500 nits at 25% APL. It employs 3,840Hz PWM dimming for enhanced light control, protected by Gorilla Glass 7i.

The larger panel also enables two key upgrades. First, the phone uses an ultrasonic fingerprint reader, providing a more secure and responsive unlocking experience. Second, it packs an impressive 8,500mAh Si/C battery, the largest ever in a Poco device, aiming to cater to power-hungry users.

Charging is equally aggressive. The phone supports 100W HyperCharge and PPS, along with a reverse charging capability of 27W. In optimal conditions, it can reach a 50% charge in just 24 minutes, making it ideal for those on the go.

Despite its hefty battery, the device maintains a slim profile, measuring just 8.2mm thick and weighing 218g. The global version holds an IP69K rating, and in certain regions, it offers IP68. Its robust design features a metal frame and a fiberglass back.

Xiaomi also introduces a dynamic RGB light on the rear, which supports 8 colors, indicating charging status, notifications, and camera activity. The light even syncs with music, adding a fun element to the user experience. For audio, the phone features dual 1115F symmetrical speakers, enhanced with Hi-Res Audio and Dolby Atmos for a rich sound experience.

Powering the device is the Dimensity 9500s, a capable 3nm chip. This all-big-core setup includes 1x Cortex-X925 Ultra running at 3.73GHz, along with 3x Cortex-X4 and 4x Cortex-A720 cores. The graphics are managed by an Immortalis-G925 GPU, offering a tuned version of last year’s Dimensity 9400+ performance.

Xiaomi asserts that popular games like Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact can run at up to 120fps due to game-enhancing features like Super Resolution technology. A generous 5,800mm² vapor chamber helps the device maintain optimal temperatures under heavy load.

The phone can be configured with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM at 9,600Mbps and up to 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage, providing ample space and speed for app multitasking and data storage.

Xiaomi Poco X8 Pro: Smaller, Still Ambitious

The Xiaomi Poco X8 Pro targets users who seek powerful performance in a more compact body. It features a 6.59-inch display, which is slightly smaller than the Max and below the earlier 6.67-inch standard. The resolution stands at 1,268 x 2,756, maintaining a 120Hz refresh rate.

Like the Max, this panel supports 12-bit color, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision, with brightness levels reaching 2,000 nits in High Brightness Mode and peaking at 3,500 nits at 25% APL. It also utilizes 3,840Hz PWM dimming. However, this model opts for an optical fingerprint reader instead of the ultrasonic one.

Its premium design includes a metal frame and Gorilla Glass 7i on the front. The device measures 8.38mm thick and weighs 201g, also carrying an IP69K rating globally, while some regions receive an IP68 variant.

Xiaomi Poco X8 Pro

The battery capacity drops to 6,500mAh; however, it remains more than competitive with many mainstream flagship devices. It supports the same 100W HyperCharge technology and can reach a full charge in around 48 minutes, with 27W available for reverse charging.

The X8 Pro runs on the Dimensity 8500-Ultra, a 4nm chip comprising 8x Cortex-A725 cores paired with a Mali-G720 GPU. The efficient design is complemented by a 5,300mm² 3D Dual-Layer IceLoop system for effective heat management.

Similar memory options are available, allowing for up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage.

Cameras, Connectivity, and Availability

Both models share a similar camera configuration, albeit with different main sensors. The X8 Pro features the IMX882, whereas the X8 Pro Max utilizes the Light Fusion 600. Each sensor measures 1/1.95 inches with 0.8µm pixels, placed behind f/1.5 lenses with OIS for improved image stabilization and low-light performance.

An 8MP ultra-wide camera with an f/2.2 aperture complements the primary shooter, while a 20MP sensor is responsible for capturing quality selfies.

Audio quality remains consistent across both devices, featuring dual speakers with Hi-Res Audio and Dolby Atmos, ensuring a comprehensive auditory experience. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6 (ax), Bluetooth 6.0, NFC for contactless payments, and Xiaomi offline communication capabilities.

Xiaomi plans to roll out the Xiaomi Poco X8 series globally soon. Early buyers can look forward to discounted launch pricing for a limited time, reminiscent of last year’s X7 Pro early bird offer priced at $280 for the 8/256GB variant.
