Plaud Launches the NotePin S: A Step Up in Smart Recording
Plaud has announced the release of its enhanced compact NotePin AI recorder, the NotePin S. This latest version mirrors the original design, but introduces a significant upgrade—an intuitive button interface. Additionally, users can benefit from the new Plaud Desktop app for seamless audio recording during online meetings, offered free to all owners of Plaud Note or NotePin devices.
Design and Features
Retaining its FitBit-esque aesthetic from the 2024 model, the NotePin S comes equipped with a lanyard, wristband, clip, and magnetic pin, providing users with versatile wearing options right out of the box. Previously, the lanyard and wristband were sold separately, making this update a generous addition.
In terms of size, color, battery life, and capabilities, the NotePin S stands shoulder-to-shoulder with its predecessor. Both models sport similar options including black, purple, and silver while continuing to support Apple’s Find My feature. The devices excel at recording audio and generating useful transcriptions for meeting notes, action items, or reminders.
Simplified User Experience
The introduction of the button simplifies the user experience immensely. While the original NotePin relied on haptic controls requiring a prolonged squeeze to initiate recording, the NotePin S allows users to easily start recording with a long press and add highlight markers with a simple tap. This change addresses feedback from original NotePin users who experienced difficulty in successfully initiating recordings with the previous model’s controls.
The transition to a button-based control is a notable enhancement in usability, crucial for the performance of AI recorders where ease of use is paramount. By minimizing potential user error, Plaud positions the NotePin S as a strong contender in the smart recording market.
Plaud Desktop App: Expanding Functionality
Alongside the NotePin S, Plaud is launching the Plaud Desktop application for both Mac and PC. This software runs seamlessly in the background, activating automatically during calls on platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. It can record system audio alongside microphone input, allowing for versatile meeting documentation.
For convenience, users can choose between automatic recording or manual activation. Unlike some competing solutions, Plaud Desktop does not require a bot to join the call, making it a cleaner solution for recording meetings.
Recordings are synced with notes from Plaud’s hardware recorders, creating a unified library of audio and transcripts that can enhance both personal productivity and collaboration within teams.
Pricing and Availability
Plaud Desktop is available now at no cost for existing users of Plaud Note or NotePin devices. The NotePin S is also on sale for $179, which is $20 more than its predecessor, the original NotePin, which will now be phased out.
