Samsung has officially launched the One UI 8 Watch update for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic, marking a significant milestone for these devices. Based on Wear OS 6, the update fulfills Samsung’s commitment to provide the latest operating system enhancements, even though it will be the final major update for these smartwatches.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 gets One UI 8 Watch update in South Korea
The rollout of the One UI 8 Watch update is currently underway for Wi-Fi variants of the smartwatches in South Korea. Typically, such updates are extended to additional regions and models within a few weeks. The update introduces firmware version R870XXU1JYK4/R8700XM1JYK4, with a considerable size of over 1GB, making it advisable to download this update over a Wi-Fi connection for optimal performance.
If you reside in South Korea, you can easily check for the update by launching the Galaxy Wearable app on your mobile device. Navigate to Watch settings, select Watch software update, and then tap Download and install. After the update has been downloaded, simply hit the Install now button to begin the installation process, ensuring that your watch’s battery is at least 50% before proceeding.
This will be the last major update for the smartwatches
Unveiled in 2021, the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic were Samsung’s pioneer smartwatches based on Wear OS, specifically running the Wear OS 4-based One UI 5 Watch. With these devices now exceeding four years in age, they will no longer be eligible for any future major updates beyond One UI 8.
One UI 8 Watch brings significant upgrades, featuring a refreshed user interface that includes a new Tiles page capable of hosting various widgets and complications. Notably, the Now Bar, a feature popularized by Samsung smartphones, has been integrated into the smartwatch, providing users with real-time information on activities such as music playback and workouts. The update also introduces new gestures, including double pinch and wrist shake actions, along with enhanced sleep assistance via Bedtime Guidance and the innovative Vascular Load feature.
Additions like improved notifications, new battery charging effects, and a list view option in the app drawer further enhance user experience. It’s worth considering that Samsung has already rolled out the One UI 8 Watch update to newer models, including the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch 6 series.
