Xiaomi has officially launched its innovative wearable, the Watch S5, in China. This new smartwatch succeeds the Watch S4 from the previous year and introduces several significant upgrades. It boasts a sleek, lightweight design, weighing just 46 grams (excluding the strap), making it comfortable for all-day wear. The smartwatch showcases a vibrant 1.48-inch AMOLED display, capable of peaking at an impressive brightness of up to 2,500 nits in optimal conditions. Additionally, it incorporates a crown and a physical button on the right edge for ease of use.

The Xiaomi Watch S5 is equipped with a dual-frequency GNSS chip, which enhances location accuracy and speed. Its new four-light, four-PD sensor arrangement is claimed to deliver a remarkable 98.4% heart rate accuracy. Along with heart rate monitoring, the watch offers a comprehensive suite of health features including a calorie counter, pedometer, sleep monitoring, blood pressure tracking, blood-oxygen level monitoring, menstrual cycle tracking, and fall detection.
Additionally, the Xiaomi Watch S5 provides 24-hour stress monitoring, proactively reminding users to relax when stress levels remain elevated. It offers multiple breathing relaxation modes, contributing to overall mental well-being. The revamped sleep algorithm 2.0 enhances sleep stage tracking, resulting in an 11% improvement in sleep onset and wake detection.
Sport enthusiasts will appreciate the support for over 150 sports modes, such as cycling, swimming, and running—along with automatic workout detection. The smartwatch’s 1.48-inch AMOLED display features a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels with a pixel density of 323 PPI, ensuring bright and clear visuals even under sunlight, thanks to its 1,500 nits full panel brightness and 2,500 nits peak brightness.
Up to 21 days of battery
In terms of hardware, the Xiaomi Watch S5 is packed with an array of sensors, including a heart rate sensor, acceleration sensor, gyroscope, geomagnetic sensor, barometric pressure sensor, and an ambient light sensor. It is compatible with devices running Android 8.0 or later, as well as iOS 14 and upwards. The smartwatch measures 46 x 46 x 10.99 mm and is rated at 5ATM for water resistance, making it suitable for various activities.
Powering the device is an 815mAh battery, claimed to last up to 21 days with casual use and 9 days with the always-on display feature activated. Additionally, an eSIM variant is available, allowing users to make calls without needing their phone, further enhancing convenience. As with other gadgets in Xiaomi’s lineup, the Watch S5 is designed to seamlessly integrate with the Xiaomi ecosystem.
Price and availability
The Xiaomi Watch S5 is priced at 1,099 Yuan (approximately $160) for the classic black and silver models. The Forged Carbon and Midnight Blue variants are slightly more expensive, retailing for 1,299 Yuan (around $189). The eSIM version also falls into the same price range of 1,299 Yuan (~$189). Currently, the smartwatch is available for purchase on the Xiaomi China store, though details regarding its international availability have yet to be announced.
