Withings Launches Body Scan 2 at CES 2026: A New Era in Smart Scale Technology
At CES 2026, Withings, a leader in health technology, showcased its latest advancement in smart scale design: the Body Scan 2, priced at $599.95. This new device emphasizes cardiovascular and metabolic health, reflecting a growing trend towards holistic monitoring of well-being.
Innovative Design for Enhanced Accuracy
The Body Scan 2 features eight electrodes embedded in the scale, along with an additional four within a retractable handle. This design is reminiscent of the original Body Scan, but the inclusion of the handle allows for a more comprehensive assessment of body composition by including upper-body data. In contrast to typical smart scales that rely solely on foot electrodes and lower-body data, Withings has taken a significant step in improving accuracy.
A Comprehensive Health Assessment
One of the standout features of the Body Scan 2 is its ability to track an impressive range of biomarkers. Alongside basic metrics like weight and heart rate, this scale introduces a 90-second “longevity assessment.” This assessment evaluates over 60 biometrics segmented into five core categories: heart pumping performance, electrical activity of the heart, hypertension risk, artery health, cellular health, and metabolic efficiency, as well as glycemic regulation.
As Antoine Joussain, Withings’ director of product management, devices, explains, “We have been building this vision of adding a lot of powerful biomarkers that can be measured every day when you step on the scale.” To make the data manageable, users will receive a simplified Health Trajectory score that visualizes their healthspan, indicating how many years of good health they might expect.
Noninvasive Tracking Methods
Unlike other health-monitoring gadgets, the Body Scan 2 uses noninvasive methods to assess metabolic health. Utilizing bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) and even foot sweat, the scale produces detailed insights without invasive blood tests. “The goal is to stimulate the sweat glands that are inside your feet with a safe, tiny current. If the activity is high, it means your glands are healthy, and if not, they are not healthy,” Joussain notes.
Withings aims for the Body Scan 2 to serve as a “longevity station” rather than just a weight-measuring tool. Joussain indicates that the focus is on making health tracking more accessible and frequent, replacing the need for regular blood tests with easy, everyday measurements.
Acknowledging User Concerns
However, Withings is also conscious of the emotional implications of using a scale. Some individuals may avoid stepping on a scale to prevent body dysmorphia or disordered eating. To address this, the Body Scan 2 includes an “Eyes-Closed Mode.” This mode replaces traditional metrics with emojis while still logging data in the Withings app, aiming for a more positive experience overall.
Regulatory Considerations Ahead
As the Body Scan 2 prepares for market launch, Withings will seek FDA clearance for key features, such as hypertension risk notifications and EKG capabilities for detecting atrial fibrillation. Joussain expresses optimism about newer certification pathways that could streamline the introduction of their health tech devices without sacrificing quality or research rigor.
Scheduled for release in Q2 2026, the Body Scan 2 promises to push boundaries in home health technology, making meaningful biomarker tracking part of daily life.
