The WhatsApp app has officially launched for select Garmin smartwatches, extending messaging capabilities to users’ wrists. This app, now available on the Garmin Connect IQ store, allows you to stay connected without constantly reaching for your phone. You can conveniently view the ten most recent chats or group messages and access the latest ten messages within each chat directly from your Garmin device.
Seamless Connection Process
Connecting the app to your smartwatch is straightforward. Users simply scan a QR code displayed on the watch using their smartphone camera, making the setup process quick and user-friendly.
Enable Messaging on Your Watch
The Garmin WhatsApp app features a built-in keyboard for sending messages. Although the keyboard is compact—typical for most wearables—it enables users to communicate efficiently. With the app, you can see notifications for incoming messages, and group messages are labeled by sender, adding clarity to your conversations. However, it’s worth noting that users currently cannot send voice notes, a limitation that may be addressed in future updates.
Additionally, the app supports emoji reactions, allowing for a richer conversational experience. In terms of voice calls, WhatsApp will notify users of incoming calls, and you can choose to decline them directly from your smartwatch. Best of all, the app is free to use and does not require a Garmin Connect+ subscription, enhancing its accessibility for all Garmin users.
