Samsung Health has emerged as a comprehensive tool for individuals looking to monitor their health and wellness through their Galaxy devices, smartwatches, or smart rings. The platform is known for its dynamic range of features, and Samsung continues to innovate regularly. Recently, the app introduced a virtual doctor appointment feature in partnership with HealthTap, aiming to enhance user healthcare management. Among its latest offerings, Samsung is focusing on a critical area of health: hearing protection. Prolonged exposure to loud noises is a significant contributor to hearing loss, and the new features present an exciting development.

Samsung Health May Introduce a New ‘Noise’ Card to Safeguard Your Hearing

According to reports, the Samsung Health app for Android version 6.31.2.003 is set to include a feature known as the “Noise” card, likely intended for Galaxy smartwatches. This initiative is reminiscent of Apple’s built-in Noise app that helps users monitor sound levels. This upcoming feature, although currently hidden, is designed to enable users to keep an eye on their exposure to harmful noise levels. Utilizing the device’s microphone, it will assess the noise environment and provide users with real-time readings.

Visuals uncovered in the latest app updates depict a “Today’s average” card featuring a decibel meter. Users will encounter noise levels represented in a color-coded system: blue, green, yellow, and orange, indicating varying levels of severity. Users can access additional options through a three-dot menu, which includes “Noise alert history” and “Advanced Measurement” settings.

Advanced Measurement and Noise Alert History Features Explained

The “Noise alert history” feature maintains a record of alerts, allowing users to track how many notifications they’ve received. The “Advanced Measurement” option leverages the microphone in your smartwatch to continuously assess noise levels encountered throughout the day. Should the detected noise exceed the designated threshold, an alert will be issued. Users will also have the flexibility to set their specific noise thresholds for alert notifications, ranging from 80 dB to 100 dB.

Moreover, this functionality extends to monitoring the sound produced by the user’s phone. If noise levels exceed a pre-defined limit, the app will notify the user accordingly. Another useful feature is the “Noise level” graph, which displays alerts collected over specified durations: weekly, monthly, and yearly. This graphical representation helps users visualize their exposure to loud noises over time.

While these features are not yet available to the general public, they appear to be in the final stages of testing, and an official rollout may occur soon. Keeping abreast of updates is essential for users eager to leverage this innovative tool for hearing protection.
