Perfect for basic users. Great battery life.
First and foremost this HP Chromebook (model 14a-nf0099nr) does NOT have a back-lit keyboard or a touchscreen. I have seen various listings that say it has one or the other or both and I can assure you that it has neither. As far as I can tell those are not even an option for this particular model.I purchased this 14-inch HP Chromebook laptop as a used item, the condition was listed as ‘LIKE NEW’ or ‘OPEN BOX’. It looks and works like new so I’m happy with it.Very easy to set up with simple guided instruction all the way through the process and a brief tutorial on the basics if you need it. This is my first Chromebook and even though it’s a pretty basic system there is a slight learning curve. Mostly in terms of figuring out apps and folders and that kind of stuff. The battery life is phenomenal in the default setting, over eight hours of basic web browsing and productivity on a single charge. The system itself is great. With the n100, 8gb RAM and 128gb USF it is more than enough for students or basic home use: productivity/word processing, streaming video, web browsing, etc.The one downside is the limited port options; 1 USB-A, 1 USB-C, and one combination microphone/headphone jack. I’m not a hardcore gamer so I can’t say anything about that but you can use it for some web based gaming.Very lite-weight and portable. You could easily carry it around all day in a bag or backback and not even notice. The overall build is good. It’s got a textured casing that is obviously plastic but doesn’t have that cheap “feel” you sometimes get. The keyboard is good. Not a lot of bend or give to it. The keys have a nice response, not mushy at all, comfortable for extended use.BOTTOM LINE: I’m very happy with this chromebook. It’s got a good build quality, a more than adequate system and it’s very easy to use. It’s an amazing value as far as I’m concerned. If you just need a basic daily driver then this is a very good option.

Great value for a quality laptop for simple use
This is a great buy for someone like me. I have simple uses for my laptop, and simply want it to work well, and have a good battery life. I’m not a gamer, I check emails and rarely load more than 3 or 4 tabs at the same time. I use simple apps, and watch occasional videos. This laptop is just what I needed, and you can’t beat the price. HP builds a reliable product, I bought this to replace another HP Chromebook that had slightly less power. Can’t go wrong with this laptop for the price.

    Great upgrade
This laptop is fantastic. I mostly use it for my 501c3 work, writing and casual research. It’s very easy to use as someone who has mostly used windows pc and laptops all my life. First chrome book and it’s incredibly easy. Battery life is incredible off the charger for 5-6 hours and then it started to get to 20% battery. Major improvement from my last laptop. Super lightweight barely freezes and speed based on internet.Only reason it lost a start was keyboard is a tad sticky and I miss my 10 key pad lol

    Good cheap school laptop
Great laptop for school. No problems and a surprisingly beefy insides.

Persistently dropped WiFi, lousy support, cheap build… returned promptly.
Right out of the box, this Chromebook dropped my wifi signal repeatedly. It would lose the signal after being connected for a short while, and it would not auto-connect to my network upon startup or after opening the lid. HP’s support options include paying $20 (!) to talk to someone (for up to 30 minutes) or live chat. I chose the latter and after nearly 20 minutes the only progress made was confirming my first and last name, my email address, phone number and product serial number. I’d be surprised if the chat was an actual human being; the responses were painfully slow and the dialogue reeked of AI. Doing my own research, I found that dropped wifi is not uncommon on some Chromebooks, and there are many possible culprits. That said, HP was no help to me in finding a solution. So now they get their product back — I returned it promptly. Since their priority was to capture my contact info first and foremost, HP followed up with emails and phonecalls to “make things right,” but they had their chance and they weren’t there for me when I needed them. The HP escalation person was clearly going through the motions so that she could “close the case,” which is purely for their administrative purposes, clearly her priority and of no use or benefit to me. The Chromebook itself is VERY cheap build — lightweight plastic that seems like it will not last long at all. I could not be surprised when the case and/or keyboard inevitably breaks or comes apart. This was my third Chromebook (my first HP) and unquestionably the lousiest build. For what little time I used it, the screen appeared dull and washed out. This was a cheap HP Chromebook and you get what you pay for… and that goes for HP’s support, too. This experience was a good reminder of why I stopped buying HP printers a long time ago.

    Incorrect description, no backlit keyboard.
Nice product overall, solid construction and decent performance. it was advertised as having a backlit keyboard and that was ,in part, the reason i ordered this particular model. However, it does NOT have a back light on the keyboard, I found this out on the second day I had it and customer service refunded the cost for the back light to me, It was on sale so the additional refund for the falsely claimed backlit keyboard meant it was a really decent price. The three stars are for the false claim, otherwise this computer would have gotten a five star rating for its overall performance.

  7. Happydan

Good price fast and easy to use
This was a great buy. I don’t know a lot about computers and was hesitant to buy another one without help from the store. Set up is simple. Did it all myself. My only complaint is that the keys don’t light up and are somewhat difficult to see in low light. Have used it for about 3 months and no issues so far. Regret having waited so long to replace my old laptop
