Meta Launches Trade-In Program for Smart Glasses
For the first time, Meta is introducing a trade-in discount program for its smart glasses, which will run only until December 31st. This initiative aims to encourage users to upgrade their devices while benefiting from reduced costs. According to a legal page on Meta’s website, eligible models for trade-in discounts include the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1, Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, Oakley Meta HSTN, and Oakley Meta Vanguard. However, it’s important to note that the Meta Ray-Ban Display is not included in this offer, and limited edition or refurbished glasses are also ineligible.
Eligible Devices for Trade-In
If you’re considering an upgrade, you can trade in your first-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Interestingly, Meta is also offering trade-in credits for select pairs of earbuds, expanding the scope of this promotional program. The comprehensive list of eligible earbuds is yet to be fully disclosed, and it’s worth mentioning that a pair of “Apple AirPods Pro 4” does not currently exist, leaving some ambiguity regarding whether Meta meant the AirPods 4 or the AirPods Pro 3.
How to Access the Trade-In Discount
To take advantage of the trade-in discount, purchases must be made directly from Meta’s online store. Once you add an eligible pair of glasses to your cart, you should see an option for the trade-in discount displayed clearly above the product information. Some users on Reddit have reported that they had to experiment with different web browsers to successfully access the trade-in offer, suggesting that if you don’t see it immediately, trying another browser could be beneficial.
Discounts and Pricing Structure
Discount amounts can vary depending on the specific device being traded in and its condition. Meta is reportedly offering discounts of up to $113, which could significantly reduce the usual price of $379 for the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2. This newer model boasts double the battery life compared to its predecessor, along with improved camera functionality. For users who don’t require extensive battery life or who lack other wearables to trade in, choosing the first-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses—currently available at a lower price—may be the most economical decision.
