While the JBL Endurance Peak II excels in several areas, it is essential to note that they do lack certain features commonly expected in high-end earbuds, such as active noise cancellation and mobile app support. However, priced at under $100, these omissions are understandable, especially for users primarily interested in using them for workouts. Overall, they fulfill their purpose effectively, making them a popular choice for fitness enthusiasts.

JBL Endurance Peak II: Specs

Interface: Bluetooth 5.0
Battery life: 6 hours per earbud, 30 hours total with case
Noise cancellation: Passive Noise Cancellation
Water resistance: IPX7
Weight: 0.5 oz (13g) per earbud

Although the JBL Endurance Peak II won’t win any awards for the top budget workout headphones, with a price tag of $99.95 (£104.99 / AU$149.99), they remain a more budget-friendly option compared to many competitors. For a frame of reference, the Beats Fit Pro offer many additional features, including active noise cancellation and ambient or passthrough modes, but come at double the price point at $199 (£199 / AU$299.95).

For those looking to stick with the JBL brand, the JBL Reflect Aero earbuds are also available for $149 (£119), providing more features. However, unlike the Endurance Peak II, they do not offer the same secure fit with their ear hooks.

  • The fit is incredibly secure and mostly comfortable
  • They’re light on features like ambient or transparency mode

Design and Comfort

What distinguishes the JBL Endurance Peak II from many other earbuds is the rubberized ear hooks designed to wrap securely around the ear. This ensures the earbuds remain reliably in place, making them an optimal choice for physical activity. While they are available in black, blue, and white, aesthetics take a backseat to performance for these practical, sport-oriented earbuds.

In terms of comfort, the snug fit provided by the ear hooks does come with some trade-offs. After an hour of continuous use, the pressure exerted by the ear tips can lead to discomfort. Consequently, if you seek a pair of earbuds for everyday casual use, alternatives may be preferable. Nevertheless, for workout-focused use, this secure fit is generally worthwhile.

Usability Features

Despite their somewhat limited feature set, the JBL Endurance Peak II offers essential functionalities like capacitive touch controls for managing music and phone calls. Additionally, these earbuds allow for mono mode usage, enabling you to operate either earbud independently.

With an IPX7 rating, the earbuds are resistant to sweat and brief submersion in water. However, they are not designed for extended exposure to water, such as swimming, which requires an IPX8 rating for full protection.

Sound Quality

The sound quality of the JBL Endurance Peak II, while not extraordinary, is commendable given its price. The bass is notably emphasized to enhance your workout experience. This, however, does come at the expense of some refinement in mids and highs, which tend to lack clarity. As a user, you might need to resort to a third-party EQ to achieve a more neutral sound profile if desired.

The earbuds perform satisfactorily during calls, though the audio may sound a bit hollow or distant. Generally, this performance is above average when compared to other competitors within the same bracket.

Battery Life

When it comes to battery life, the JBL Endurance Peak II stands as a strong contender within the market. With six hours of standalone use from the earbuds and an additional 24 hours provided by the charging case, they offer more than enough battery life for most users, including those not engaged in long-distance events.

In summary, if you are searching for affordable earbuds that can withstand rigorous workouts without sacrificing performance, the JBL Endurance Peak II represents a smart investment. While they may lack a few advanced features, their secure fit, sound quality, and battery life make them suitable for anyone looking to enhance their workout experience.
