Huawei today held its “Now is Your Run” product launch event, unveiling the highly-anticipated Watch GT Runner 2 smartwatch. This new wearable is the successor to the beloved Watch GT Runner, launched in 2021, and comes packed with performance upgrades, enhanced positioning capabilities, and advanced features tailored for sports enthusiasts. Alongside the smartwatch, Huawei also introduced its latest audio device, the FreeBuds Pro 5.
Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 is the ultimate wearable for runners
The Watch GT Runner 2 has been developed in collaboration with marathon legend and Olympic gold medalist Eliud Kipchoge, alongside the DSM-Firmenich Running Team. A standout feature of the smartwatch is its Intelligent Marathon Mode, designed to provide real-time guidance to athletes while tracking essential performance metrics. This includes running power measurement, dynamic pace guidance, and smart refuel reminders, making it a robust companion for serious runners.
Positioning accuracy is crucial for professional runners, and the new Huawei Watch excels in this area. It boasts a state-of-the-art 3D floating antenna that enhances GPS accuracy even in challenging environments, such as crowded city streets or shaded trails. The dual-band satellite positioning system allows users to track their activities without needing to pair the watch with a smartphone.
What are the other features of the Watch GT Runner 2?
The design of the Watch GT Runner 2 is sleek and modern, featuring a large circular dial encased in a geometric frame. At only 43.5mm, the smartwatch is ultra-slim and lightweight, ensuring a comfortable fit during workouts. An innovative AirDry feature enhances strap breathability, preventing moisture buildup and ensuring dryness during intense physical activity.
Equipped with a vibrant 1.32-inch AMOLED display that reaches peak brightness levels of 3,000 nits, the Watch GT Runner 2 is built with second-generation Kunlun Glass, a durable titanium casing, and a robust metal bezel. Battery life varies depending on usage; it can last up to 14 days under light use, seven days with typical use, and approximately 32 hours in outdoor workout mode with precise positioning enabled.
In addition to its running features, the smartwatch supports comprehensive health tracking, including ECG monitoring, heart rate tracking, blood oxygen levels, sleep analysis, and stress insights. It has an IP69 rating and is water-resistant up to 5 ATM. With over 100 sports modes, NFC payment support, and Bluetooth calling capabilities, it seamlessly integrates with both Android and iOS devices.
Huawei also expands its audio portfolio with the FreeBuds Pro 5
Alongside the Watch GT Runner 2, Huawei introduced the FreeBuds Pro 5, succeeding the FreeBuds Pro 4. These new earbuds feature significant audio enhancements, an improved acoustic seal for better sound quality, and increased comfort. The advanced dual driver acoustic system comprises an 11mm dynamic driver paired with a micro-planner tweeter, delivering cleaner and more precise bass performance while reducing distortion by 45% compared to the previous model.
The earbuds feature Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity and support various audio codecs, including AAC, SBC, LDAC, and L2HC. Additional highlights include the ability to pair with two devices simultaneously, intuitive touch controls, an improved IP57 rating for water resistance, enhanced Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), and an impressive battery life of up to 33 hours when using the charging case.
In terms of pricing, the Watch GT Runner 2 is expected to retail for about €399 (approximately $470), available in three color options: an all-black variant and two tri-tone strap designs. The FreeBuds Pro 5 will be priced around €900 (approximately $1,060). Both products are set to be rolled out in major markets shortly.
