Google Expands Personal Intelligence to AI Mode in Search
In a significant development for users of Google’s suite of applications, the company has launched Personal Intelligence within its Gemini framework, which has now made its way to Google Search’s AI Mode. This feature, introduced just a week ago, enhances the personalization of search results in unprecedented ways.
Personalized Search Experience
Available to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US, Personal Intelligence allows users to connect their Gmail and Google Photos accounts. This functionality is designed to provide personalized search results tailored to your emails and photo memories. It’s an opt-in feature within the Labs section of Google Search, and activating it is straightforward: simply go to Google Search, tap your profile, choose Search personalization, select Connected Content Apps, and connect to your Workspace and Google Photos.
Practical Applications of AI Mode
The utility of this feature is exemplified in various scenarios. For instance, if you are in the market for clothing, AI Mode identifies brands you’ve previously purchased and suggests new items from those brands. Similarly, if you’re planning a trip, the AI can reference your hotel bookings found in Gmail and your travel memories stored in Google Photos to recommend activities and dining options that align with your preferences.
Privacy and Data Training
Importantly, Google assures users that AI Mode utilizes Gemini 3 without directly training on the contents of their Gmail inboxes or Google Photos libraries. The training process is limited to “specific prompts in AI Mode and the model’s responses,” aimed at improving functionality while maintaining user privacy.
