The Infinix Note 60 Pro: A Fun and Functional Mid-Ranger

As the smartphone market evolves toward a singularity, Infinix stands out by offering devices that prioritize both fun and functionality. The Infinix Note 60 Pro is a testament to this ethos, featuring an innovative active Matrix LED display that transforms its rear camera island into a playful retro-style gaming machine, all while keeping you updated on incoming notifications.

A Step Toward the Mainstream

The Note 60 Pro marks a significant shift for Infinix as it is the brand’s first model in a considerable time to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon silicon. This indicates a move beyond budget options toward a more mainstream presence in the smartphone market. Complemented by a sizable battery and rapid charging, the Note 60 Pro appeals to a broader audience.

Having tested the device ahead of its launch, my initial impressions are largely positive, leading me to wish that Infinix had a more extensive presence beyond its primary markets in Africa and India.

Design: Sophisticated Yet Affordable

The Note 60 Pro excels in its aesthetic appeal, featuring a metal frame, rounded corners, and a flat AMOLED display with impressively thin bezels. At only 7.45mm thick, it strikes a balance between being sleek and solid, making it difficult to categorize as an affordable device based on looks alone.

Available in eye-catching colors like Deep Ocean Blue and Solar Orange, as well as Mist Titanium, Mocha Brown, Frost Silver, and a unique Torino Black variant co-developed with Pininfarina, the design offers something for everyone. While there are clear influences from Apple, Infinix has opted for distinctive rectangular shapes and a color-shifting Halo light ring, a signature feature of the Note series.

Active Matrix LED Display: A Unique Feature

The most intriguing aspect is the customisable Active Matrix LED display, which remains hidden under the glossy polycarbonate surface until activated by a notification or a gentle shake. In addition to notifications, users can enjoy specialized minigames utilizing the side buttons. Similar screens have appeared on other phones, like the Nothing Phone 3, but the Note 60 Pro offers a more affordable and accessible alternative.

Features That Pack a Punch

The Infinix Note 60 Pro offers exceptional value, featuring an under-display fingerprint sensor, FM radio, an IR blaster, and a configurable One-Tap button reminiscent of the Plus Key on recent OnePlus devices. This button can be programmed to perform multiple tasks like toggling volume modes or launching the camera app, adding a layer of convenience.

While eSIM support is not standard on budget-friendly handsets in the Indian and African markets, it is a valuable addition to this model. The IP64 rating provides some degree of water and dust resistance, which is always welcome.

Notably, the device also includes a side sensor that serves as a heart rate monitor, providing readings within 30 seconds that seemed consistent with my Garmin smartwatch.

Display and Multimedia Experience

With a 6.78-inch display, the picture quality on the Note 60 Pro is impressive. The 144Hz refresh rate combined with peak brightness of up to 4500 nits makes for a vibrant viewing experience, especially outdoors where visibility is top-notch. Colors pop, and the JBL-tuned stereo speakers deliver fulfilling audio quality, perfect for multimedia consumption.

Regarding camera performance, initial observations suggest the photography capabilities meet the expectations for a budget model. The 50MP primary lens captures decent detail, although it’s a bit lacking in dynamic range. Meanwhile, the 8MP ultrawide camera provides more engaging color reproduction, despite a reduction in detail.

Performance and Battery Life

As the first device from Infinix that utilizes Snapdragon silicon, the Note 60 Pro is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, paired with RAM options of 8GB or 12GB and 256GB of storage. This marks a significant upgrade over the MediaTek Helio chipset used in the previous-gen model.

In terms of responsiveness, the device runs Android 16 smoothly, with quick app launches and seamless multitasking. Gaming performance is satisfactory, as 3D titles run smoothly at lower settings without causing the device to overheat.

The Note 60 Pro showcases Infinix’s custom XOS Android skin, which is quite full-featured and packed with preloaded apps. While the translucent UI bears resemblance to Apple’s Liquid Glass, it offers considerable customization options and promises three generations of Android updates along with five years of security patches.

Depending on your region, you may find either a 6000mAh or 6500mAh battery inside the Note 60 Pro. The latter variant is more than sufficient for a day and a half of heavy usage, while moderate use can stretch battery life to up to two days. The 90W wired charging feature is particularly noteworthy for a mid-range device, further augmented by a rapid 30W wireless charging option.

Conclusion and Availability

The Infinix Note 60 Pro is currently available in its primary markets—India, Africa, and Southeast Asia—with pricing varying by region. The combination of fun, functionality, and competitive pricing makes it an enticing option for users seeking a reliable smartphone without breaking the bank.
