Audio-Technica Launches New Cartilage Conduction Headphones
Audio-Technica has officially introduced its latest innovation, the Audio-Technica ATH-CC500BT2 cartilage conduction headphones. These second-generation headphones are set to provide a fresh alternative to traditional bone conduction models, utilizing a unique method that transmits sound through the cartilage of the ear.
This innovative approach not only alleviates some common vibration issues associated with bone conduction technology, as noted in models like Shokz, but also enhances overall comfort and sound clarity. By turning the ears themselves into speakers, users can enjoy music and phone calls without blocking their ear canals, which enhances hygiene and allows for greater awareness of the surrounding environment—an important feature for enhanced safety during activities like running or cycling.

Sporting a lightweight design, the ATH-CC500BT2 weighs in at just 32 grams, making them comfortable for prolonged use. The construction involves durable titanium and silicone materials, ensuring both sturdiness and flexibility.
Audio-Technica employs PAT.P vibration drivers paired with its Acoustic Pure Sound Stabilizer technology, which significantly minimizes any degradation in sound quality often found in vibration-based audio devices.
One of the standout features of the ATH-CC500BT2 is its impressive 20 hours of battery life from a single charge. The headphones also come with a quick charge capability, providing up to 120 minutes of playback after just a 10-minute charging session. For those who need to take calls, they incorporate a built-in microphone and utilize AI-driven noise reduction technology, enhancing audio clarity during conversations.
These headphones are also IPX4 water-resistant, meaning they can withstand rain, splashes, and sweat, making them ideal for active lifestyles. Additionally, they can connect to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously and offer compatibility with virtual assistants like Siri and Google Assistant, alongside the Audio-Technica Connect app for customizable functionality. Charging is made simple via USB-C.
The Audio-Technica ATH-CC500BT2 headphones are now available for purchase at Audio-Technica.com, retailing at £119 / €139. However, U.S. customers will unfortunately not find these headphones available in their market at this time; Australian pricing has yet to be determined.
