If you thought smart glasses faded into obscurity following the lackluster reception of Google Glass, you’re certainly not alone. Nonetheless, recent innovations from companies such as Snap and Meta have triggered a resurgence in the popularity of this technology. At CES 2026, XREAL unveiled its latest offering in the smart glasses market: the XREAL 1S. These glasses not only feature significant hardware improvements but also come at a lower price point than their predecessor.
Meaningful Upgrades
The XREAL 1S introduces several compelling enhancements over the original XREAL One. The most notable upgrade is the display technology. While the previous model utilized a 1080p resolution, the XREAL 1S boasts 1200p Full HD Micro-OLED panels. This allows for a virtual display that can extend up to an impressive 500 inches. Weighing in at a mere 84 grams, these glasses are designed for comfort, facilitating long-term wear without fatigue.
In addition to the upgraded display, the field of view (FOV) has seen an increase from 50 degrees to 52 degrees, while brightness has improved from 600 nits to 700 nits. The XREAL 1S continues to provide a smooth experience with its 120Hz refresh rate and minimal latency of just 3 milliseconds, making any lag virtually undetectable.
One of the most exciting features is the 2D to 3D conversion, enabled by the innovative X1 chip. Users can easily transform any YouTube video, movie, or game into a captivating 3D experience simply by toggling a switch. This feature doesn’t require additional apps or downloads, enhancing the immersion of gaming sessions effortlessly.
If you prefer not to use separate headphones or speakers, XREAL has integrated “Sound by Bose” audio technology into the glasses, delivering high-quality spatial sound directly through the device.
A Better Pricing
The XREAL 1S is competitively priced at $449, which is $50 less than the original XREAL One’s retail price of $499. Considering the improvements in display quality and features, this pricing presents an attractive opportunity for those interested in entry-level augmented reality (AR) glasses.
For enhanced functionality, XREAL offers the optional Neo hub for $99 if ordered before February 4, 2026. After that date, the price will increase to $119. The Neo hub not only includes a robust 10,000mAh battery for charging devices but also allows users to connect their Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck consoles directly. Additionally, it features upscaling capabilities, enhancing Switch games from 720p to 1080p at 120Hz, while Steam Deck games can achieve a resolution of 1200p at the same refresh rate.
The Neo hub is slated for shipment in February 2026. For those who’ve been contemplating a foray into augmented reality without breaking the bank, the XREAL 1S is a promising option worth considering.
