Adobe Unveils Groundbreaking AI-Powered Tools for Premiere and After Effects
In an effort to enhance the video editing experience, Adobe has rolled out significant updates to its Premiere and After Effects software on desktop. These updates come after the introduction of a dedicated YouTube Shorts creation space in the Premiere app for iOS last year, showcasing Adobe’s commitment to evolving its suite of tools for content creators.
Among the most notable features is the Object Mask function, which utilizes artificial intelligence to streamline the mask creation process for complex moving subjects. Instead of spending hours manually drawing around these subjects with traditional pen or shape tools, users can simply hover over a subject and click to generate a mask, thus accelerating their workflow.

Streamlined Masking for Enhanced Editing Experience
Once a general selection is made with the new Object Mask tool, users can refine their masks by adding or subtracting areas using fast lasso and rectangular editing tools. The tool also includes feathering and resizing controls, allowing users to fine-tune their selections without the tedious manual effort typically required in video editing.
AI-Powered Masking Runs Locally
What sets this new feature apart is its underlying technology; Adobe has developed an assistive AI model that operates entirely on-device. This approach eliminates the need for uploading footage to the cloud, resulting in faster performance while maintaining the privacy of users’ projects. Adobe emphasizes that customer data is not utilized to train the model, reinforcing its commitment to data security.
In addition to the Object Mask feature, updates have also improved the functionality of the Shape Mask tool. Users can now generate redesigned Ellipse, Rectangle, and Pen masks directly from the toolbar. The update includes refined mask controls, which allows for more accurate adjustments and movements. Adobe claims that these updated masks can track objects in video clips up to 20 times faster than before.
The enhancements extend beyond masking; users will find it easier to import media from Firefly Boards, Adobe’s AI-powered digital canvas, and access licensed assets through the integration of Adobe Stock within Premiere. These features aim to streamline the creative process for video editors of all levels.
Exciting Updates for After Effects Users
The After Effects update brings exciting features as well, including support for importing SVG files. It also introduces 3D parametric meshes, which empower users to build graphics and photorealistic objects using customizable shapes such as cubes, spheres, cylinders, cones, and toruses.
The new updates for both Premiere and After Effects are currently being rolled out, and users can easily install them via the Creative Cloud app.
These innovations solidify Adobe’s position as a leader in the creative software industry, offering powerful tools that cater to both amateur and professional video editors.
