Longtime Mac user here – this is what I think of the Gram
Longtime Mac user here. I help people with technology and sometimes that includes folks who own a PC, so it’s nice to have one on hand. The only other PC I’ve had of my own to work problems out on was a donated 2020 HP laptop with significantly lower specs than this, so I’m happy to have this vastly updated LG laptop to assist me when I need to work with the Windows folks. This is stunningly lightweight. Compared to my 16-inch Mac laptop, this thing’s a feather – but it’s also plastic, which feels less premium and tough. That said, the plastic doesn’t feel bad in usage and looks great in black.Coming from a Mac, these are the two Gram features I love the most:• The touchscreen is a lot of fun to play with (I don’t know how much I’ll end up using it from day-to-day, but I’ve always maintained that it’s nice to have when you want to use it).• The Windows version of FaceID. I wish I had that option on my Mac! It’s not as secure as TouchID from what I understand, but it is simpler to use and easier to set up. The FaceID feature has only failed to work for me once so far.Coming from a high-resolution display Mac laptop, I was concerned about downgrading to a screen that is only 1080p and not quite as bright. So far, it’s not that big of a deal. My brother didn’t notice a difference in screen quality at all, and I only do if I’m actively thinking about it. Text is maybe a little crisper on my Mac.I also miss the large trackpad on my Mac; I feel more confined on the Gram. The Gram’s webcam is acceptable, nothing special at all.I love how tiny the power adapter is for this laptop compared to the brick with my last PC. Also, the manual says not to use the Gram laptop on a bed because of how hot it can get. Big yikes! Compared to Apple’s amazing fanless MacBook Air laptops, these Grams have cooling fans. Feels like a regression there. It’s interesting to have USB-A ports available again. I do miss them from time to time on my Mac. But I’d rather have more USB-C ports on here. USB-C is the future, and I have to sacrifice one of the Gram’s USB-C ports just for power. Additionally, I miss having access to USB-C on both sides of the laptop so I can plug in power on either side. This computer already crashed once for me in the first few hours of usage, when I typed my first query in to the ChatGPT app.The touchscreen generally seems to work well. The trackpad doesn’t seem as precise as on my Mac; I’ll often go to click something and the cursor moves in the process, which is annoying.Overall, this is a huge improvement over my last PC, and does offer a few unique advantages compared to the Mac.

    Excellent laptop, thin and lightweight.
I ordered this laptop to be used while traveling. It is very thin and lightweight, which makes it easy to transport. The screen size is fifteen inches and has good graphics and display. It runs windows 11 Home version, has 16Gigs of memory and a 1 TB drive which is a lot of storage. The laptop is fast and seems more geared towards productivity and web browsing rather than gaming. Installing more memory would help with certain types of gaming but for what I use it for, it is good as it is. The charging pack for it is small as well and uses USB-c technology for charging and the battery lasts a long time. It also includes an HDMI video port to be able to connect to a projector or TV for larger display or presentations. Overall, you will get your money’s worth with this is an excellent quality, lightweight and thin laptop.

    Great experience.
Overall view of this laptop is that it’s great not fantastic. The positive points of this or that it’s super thin, super light. It is equipped with an amazing screen. It is a textured touchscreen. It’s pretty responsive. It’s handy for certain things. The screen itself looks beautiful. It’s very bright. It’s very vivid and its colors. It’s very accurate. You can see it from all sides, which is fantastic. It makes other laptop screens that I use look terrible. The hardware that’s inside is really modern and pretty fast.I can’t figure find out who makes the SSD. I did find out who made the chip set for it but it looks like it is LG made SSD. Only found an LG laptops.Battery life on this unit is great for every day tasksThe problems I have with this unit why I can’t give it five stars. The keyboard is very slim for me personally it’s not comfortable typing for long periods of time. The function keys are set out of the box to be the F keys and not the special functions. The average user is going to be using the volume up and down more than they’re gonna be using F1 F2.etc. The function key for volume up and down is all the way to the right away from the FN key to activate them. When I close the lid on this unit, it doesn’t fully go to sleep and I found that it was still getting hot inside my laptop bag and when I took it out, the fan was running and it was really warm. This happened on multiple occasions no matter what I did to it, besides shutting down. The charger that it comes with is great, but the cable is not that long. So if you are plugging this into the average outlet and expecting it to reach, you’re gonna have to be pretty close to that outlet. I prefer a traditional charger or a longer cable. I do like that it’s type C though.I also wanna point out that this laptop stays very quiet no matter what you are doing. I had to stop all the noise around me to find out if the fan was on.The speakers on this unit are fantastic for how small it is. They sound amazing. This laptop is very fast and the graphical capabilities or a plus or somebody like me who is using it primarily for work. But occasionally, I like to play a casual game or two. I did notice though when playing a game or two at low settings. Every once in a while, it would have a lag spike. As it throttled itself back down. Even after playing with the fan curve. I would have to wait until it’s cooled down and the fan stopped ramping up. Before the frame rate went back to normal. I wasn’t playing AAA titles. I was trying to play Halo reach. And the classic battlefront two from 2005.When playing these games I did find my finger slipping to other keys. I’m not finding the keyboard to be super comfortable. My other issue is that this thing is expensive. The ports that comes with on the side are two type C’s, an HDMI and a headphone jack. On the left.On the right, you get two USB A’s and a Lockport. For someone using this for work on a regular basis, I need an ethernet port. I don’t think it’s a bad thing for how thin didn’t like this is that it doesn’t have a built-in ethernet port. For the price, though they could have definitely included an adapter the USB-C to ethernet dongle. We used to get things like this when we buy premium laptops. My other issues that this is not upgradable by any means. Possibly besides storage, but this does not look like it’s designed for you to get into it. From everything I read the ram is soldered down. This is all you get that’s it. You can’t swap that out. Is this processor really benefits from having dual channel high bandwidth memory. From what I’m reading, this is soldered to the board ram. Which I understand for how slim and light it is. I just wish this wasn’t the case.Overall, for an out of the box experience for the average user this is a really good laptop. For Work, school and casual gaming. If you can afford this thing. You won’t be disappointed.
