Huawei’s presence is tepid in markets like the US, UK, and Australia, particularly in the smartphone sector due to the ongoing US ban on Huawei telecom equipment. Nevertheless, the brand is making significant strides in the smartwatch industry, with record global sales driven by high-quality offerings like the Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro. This smartwatch expertly blends fitness capabilities within a classic, stylish watch design, making it appealing at a relatively low price.
Outstanding Fitness Features
The Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro is truly a fitness powerhouse. Its battery life in the larger 46mm version is marketed to last up to 21 days, and my tests confirmed it lasted a substantial two weeks, even with multiple GPS workouts. I took the watch to the gym, assessing its GPS accuracy during outdoor exercises like running and walking.
Performance Metrics
In an extensive fitness evaluation, I compared the Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro with a Polar H10 heart rate monitor—an industry standard—and an Apple Watch Ultra 3. The results were impressive: the heart rate data from the Huawei matched the Polar’s findings without any statistically significant differences, and the average heart rate was only off by 1 bpm when compared to the Ultra. This accuracy from the TruSense heart rate monitoring system is noteworthy.
Wellness Insights
Understanding heart rate is crucial for on-wrist wellness, which includes health, sleep, and stress tracking. I tested Huawei’s TruSleep algorithm over four nights, and it accurately reflected my sleep quality. After a vivid dream-filled night, the watch indicated that REM sleep made up 32% of my total sleep, which resonated with my experience. Such immediate insights are rare in my extensive testing of wearables.

Extended Battery Life
The Watch GT 6 series offers varying battery lives: the standard GT 6 provides around 10 to 14 days, depending on the model size, while the GT 6 Pro boasts an impressive battery duration of up to 21 days on a full charge. Comparatively, this significantly exceeds the Apple Watch Ultra 3’s 42-hour capability, making it comparable to some of the leading Garmin watches.
Additional Health Tracking Features
I also explored the watch’s capabilities like skin temperature tracking, blood oxygen monitoring, and arrhythmia analysis. There’s also an emotional well-being feature that interprets various metrics to gauge your mood. While this function seemed a bit vague at times, it generally provided accurate insights. For instance, it never flagged my workouts as extreme stress nor indicated panic during my relaxing viewing of classic shows.

Display and Build Quality
The Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro features a 1.47-inch AMOLED screen that provides sharp visibility, even in direct sunlight, reaching a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits. Additionally, the watch case and bezel are crafted from titanium, which adds to its durability and premium feel, unlike the stainless steel used in the non-Pro versions.
Challenges with the Ecosystem
While the device itself is commendable, potential buyers may encounter difficulties due to Huawei’s unique ecosystem. With many users on Android or iOS platforms, Huawei’s limited compatibility can be a disadvantage. Although Huawei Health can be downloaded via AppGallery, full integration with essential apps like Google Maps is unavailable, which hinders functionality. Notifications from apps like WhatsApp are possible, but using dedicated apps on the watch itself is not supported. For instance, you would need to download Petal Maps from your phone’s browser for navigation functions.
Although Huawei Health does have interfaces with third-party apps like Strava and Komoot, the lack of complete on-watch app functionality prevents the device from being fully utilized as an all-in-one communication tool. Yet, if your primary need is a solid fitness tracker at an affordable price, and you’re not dependent on extensive app support, the Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro is a compelling option.
- £329.99 in the UK (around $445 / AU$670)
- The vanilla GT 6 starts at £229.99 in the UK (around $300 / AU$465) for both the 41mm and 46mm versions
The Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro is priced at £329.99 in the UK (approximately $445 or AU$670). The standard Huawei Watch GT 6 starts at £229.99 (around $300 or AU$465) for both the 41mm and 46mm options. It’s worth noting that the watch is currently unavailable in the US due to the communications ban, although some Huawei products can be found in Australia.
Final Thoughts
I wore the Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro for two weeks, preparing to evaluate its features in various contexts, from daily activities to fitness sessions. My aim was to thoroughly examine its capabilities by comparing it with an Apple Watch Ultra 3 and a Polar H10 heart rate monitor.
