Apple’s highly anticipated “awe dropping” event later today is set to be a thrilling showcase, featuring four new smartphones, three smartwatches, and possibly new smart home technology. As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, attendees can also expect a couple of unexpected announcements alongside the flagship phone and true wireless earbuds.
AirPods Pro 3 Make the Big Leap
Rumors have swirling regarding a significant health-oriented upgrade for the AirPods Pro. Reports suggest that Apple has been testing a suite of sensors, including a camera, temperature sensor, and a heart rate biosensor, for its premium earbuds. However, some of these features may have been delayed. Yet, Gurman indicates that the third-generation AirPods Pro 3 could still be revealed, potentially featuring an integrated heart rate monitor.
“I am still expecting AirPods Pro 3 to arrive tomorrow with a heart rate monitor. Other features include improved design for better fit and revamped charging case. I don’t expect major audio/ANC improvements.”

This wouldn’t be an entirely new venture for Apple, nor is it the first brand to pursue such health monitoring in earbuds. For instance, the Beats PowerBeats Pro already include a heart rate sensor, as do Sennheiser’s Momentum Sport earbuds.
According to Gurman, the upcoming AirPods Pro will feature an “improved design for better fit” and a reimagined charging case. It’s rumored that the traditional round physical button will be replaced with a hidden capacitive button, similar to the AirPods 4. However, improvements to noise cancellation and audio quality are not expected in this iteration.
The iPhone 17 Pro Is Going to Be Pretty Cool
Shifting focus to the eagerly awaited iPhone 17 Pro, Gurman highlights that a new vapor chamber technology will be a significant feature of the upcoming models. Moreover, he expects the introduction of two striking colors, blue and orange, for the high-end devices.
Thus far, Apple’s heat management systems have utilized traditional graphite sheets and a bonded aluminum substructure in the Titanium chassis of the iPhone 16 Pro. Gurman asserts that the new vapor chamber system will be pivotal to the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, in addition to major camera enhancements, featuring a 48MP resolution across lenses and improved optical zoom capabilities.
“I expect the new heat management system/vapor chamber on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max to be a key point tomorrow. That, of course, in addition to the external design changes, new orange and blue colors, and major camera upgrades (48MP across lenses, improved optical zoom).”

This innovation aims to elevate thermal management significantly, a feature that has already been effectively implemented in several high-end Android phones like the OnePlus 13, which utilizes a vapor chamber cooling system to manage heat more efficiently. Light thermal management not only impacts user comfort but also plays a critical role in maintaining optimal performance during intensive tasks, such as gaming or high-resolution camera capture.
For instance, devices like the Red Magic Astra tablet have demonstrated impressive temperature stability via their dual-sided vapor chamber cooling systems, even under demanding workloads involving ray tracing. There’s a heightened anticipation for similar advancements in thermal stability to be seen in the iPhone 17 Pro line.
In conclusion, Apple’s event promises an array of exciting announcements that could not only redefine its product lineup but also enhance user experience through innovative health monitoring and thermal management. Stay tuned for more details as the event unfolds.
