As we wrap up September, the tech world has certainly picked up its pace after the serene summer months. In this review, we’ll recap the noteworthy events from the past week, featuring advancements from major tech players and their latest product unveilings.
Qualcomm Launches Flagship Chipsets
Qualcomm recently unveiled its new flagship chipsets, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. Both chipsets are constructed using TSMC’s cutting-edge 2nm process, showcasing upgraded Oryon CPU cores, Adreno GPUs, and enhanced AI functionalities. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 stands out as the more powerful variant, while the standard Elite Gen 6 is designed to cater to a wider segment of flagship smartphones. Anticipation builds as the first devices utilizing these chips are expected to make their debut later this year.
Both chipsets are manufactured on a 2nm process.
Xiaomi’s Impressive 18 Pro Series
Xiaomi took the spotlight with its release of the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max. The devices offer 6.4-inch and 6.9-inch OLED displays, respectively, and include hardware-level privacy features alongside secondary rear screens measuring 2.7 inches and 2.9 inches. Both models are equipped with dual 200MP Leica cameras; the Pro variant boasts a 7,000mAh battery powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, while the Pro Max houses an 8,500mAh battery backed by the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro is priced from CNY 5,999 ($840), while the Pro Max starts at CNY 6,999 ($980). Both models are currently available in China, and a global launch is scheduled for later this year.
They also get larger batteries and identical triple cameras.
Vivo’s New X500 Series
The vivo X500 series has officially launched, comprising three models: the X500, X500 Pro, and X500 Pro Max. The standard X500 and Pro models utilize MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600, while the Pro Max elevates performance with the Dimensity 9600+. All models feature sizeable batteries, Zeiss-branded cameras, and run on OriginOS 7. Sales will commence on September 30 in China, with global availability expected by October 27.
The X500 Pro Max brings a new 4K 240fps cinematic slow motion video mode.
Unique Releases from Realme and OnePlus
Realme announced the 16 Pro Harry Potter Edition, marked by a themed design and the groundbreaking Quadra Light-Sensing Color-Changing technology, which allows the Hogwarts crest to display colors corresponding to the four Hogwarts houses. This edition also features a Harry Potter-themed UI, packaging, and accessories.
In parallel, OnePlus revealed the design of the upcoming OnePlus 16, featuring a redesigned camera island and availability in three colors: Dark Forest, Mars Masterpiece, and Tomorrow Starlight.
The Realme Buds T500 Pro Harry Potter Edition is also here.
It looks identical to the OnePlus 15.
Meta’s Smart Glass Innovations
Meta introduced two new models of smart glasses, one designed for VR experiences and the other, the Ray-Ban Meta Audio, which drops the cameras in favor of enhancing audio and call capabilities, offering a more discreet option compared to its predecessors that included cameras.
The Ray-Ban Meta Audio are the brand’s first audio-only smart glasses.
Samsung Galaxy S27 Series Specs Leak
Rumors suggest that the forthcoming Galaxy S27 series will start with models featuring 12GB of RAM, while the Pro and Ultra variants may support up to 16GB, with the Ultra potentially offering a massive 1TB storage option.
We also get another clue about the specific technology used.
Motorola & vivo’s Upcoming Devices
In a rapid announcement, Motorola introduced the Signature 27, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, featuring a 200MP zoom camera and a premium OLED screen, though further details are yet to be disclosed.
Meanwhile, vivo unveiled details about the upcoming V80, which boasts a 6.59-inch 1.5K 144Hz OLED, a 7,200mAh battery with 90W charging, and a Zeiss-backed camera system that supports 4K/60fps video recording. The V80 is set to launch in India on October 6, with its pricing yet to be announced. Notably, it will be the first vivo offering outside of China to feature OriginOS 7.
The phone features a 50MP main rear camera.
It features four cameras co-developed with ZEISS.
The phones will feature dual 200MP rear cameras.
