For those in the market for a new MacBook, recent Prime Day deals have become particularly significant, especially in light of the latest Apple price hikes. For instance, in the U.S., the MacBook Neo, touted as Apple’s most affordable laptop, is currently available at a $110 discount from its new pricing—a considerable increase compared to the meager $10 discount seen earlier.

Even better deals can be found on higher-end models like the MacBook Pro. The base model 14-inch MacBook Pro M5 is priced at $1549 in the U.S., reflecting a substantial $450 discount off Apple’s updated retail price. Consumers may want to act quickly, as the duration of these deals remains uncertain.

What does this mean for iPhone prices?

Fortunately for iPhone enthusiasts, the recent price hikes seem to have spared the iPhone lineup for now. However, analysts predict that the iPhone 18 Pro could see a price increase ranging from $50 to $100 upon its release in September. This speculation, primarily based on JP Morgan’s recent research, suggests that while prices may rise, they remain relatively more acceptable compared to heavier hikes observed across other products.

Other Apple products like the Apple Watch and AirPods have also escaped price increases so far, but there remains a chance for future adjustments later this year, albeit potentially at a lesser scale.

iPad deals

In light of the latest price fluctuations, current iPad deals have greatly improved. For instance, the iPad A16 is now seeing an effective discount of $150 in the U.S., up from its previous discount of $50. Similarly, the iPad Pro’s sale price of $899 represents a striking $300 reduction compared to Apple’s new pricing, a substantial increase from the previously offered $100 saving.

While U.K. consumers might not experience quite as many Prime Day deals, notable discounts can still be found, particularly on older models like the iPad Air 11-inch (M3).

Deals to the rescue

If there is any silver lining from the recent price hikes, it’s the availability of significant deals on Apple’s previous pricing structure, potentially yielding consumers considerable savings. These offers are especially appealing for those, like myself, who have recently been considering investing in products such as the MacBook Pro M5 model.

As I delve into some of the best deals available, both in the U.S. and the U.K., I am fully aware of the stakes involved in making a sound purchasing decision.

So what are the price hikes?

The price hikes recently imposed on Apple’s product lineup are drawing significant attention. The shifts include an increase of $100 for the MacBook Neo, now priced at $699; the MacBook Air seeing a $200 rise to $1299; and the MacBook Pro increasing by $300 to $1999.

While the price increases for these popular models may leave consumers reeling, the adjustments apply to various configurations, particularly for RAM upgrades. It’s vital to stay informed on these developments, as the previous value offered by models like the MacBook and Mac mini has suffered considerably.

Why is Apple raising prices so much?

According to Apple, the substantial price increases are rooted in a broader crisis affecting memory and storage components. An Apple spokesperson revealed to Bloomberg that the increasing demand for memory, particularly fueled by the rapid expansion of AI data centers, has led to unprecedented hikes in component prices. This ongoing situation has prompted Apple to adjust its pricing strategy across numerous products, including iPads and Macs. The company’s assurance that it has shielded customers from such increases in the past emphasizes the severity of the current trends.
