Bluesky Launches Attie: A Game-Changer in AI Personalization
The tech landscape is buzzing with excitement following the recent unveiling of Attie, a new AI assistant crafted by the innovative team at Bluesky. Unlike previous projects focused on social networking, this latest offering allows users to design their own algorithms, curate custom feeds, and, in the future, even create apps through a straightforward “vibe-coding” approach.
Introduction at Atmosphere Conference
This groundbreaking app was presented for the first time at the Atmosphere conference over the weekend by Jay Graber, former CEO and now Chief Innovation Officer, alongside Paul Frazee, Bluesky’s CTO. Attendees at the event were fortunate to be the initial beta testers of Attie, which utilizes Anthropic’s Claude to develop a highly adaptable social application based on the AT Protocol, commonly referred to as atproto.
“It’s a new product — it’s not a part of the Bluesky app,” stated interim CEO Toni Schneider in an interview. He highlighted that Attie represents the first substantial standalone product birthed from Graber’s new team, diverging from previous integrated features like Starter Packs and custom feeds found within Bluesky.

Interactivity and User Control
Attie is designed to empower users to build their own custom feeds with ease, simply by entering natural language commands likened to chatting with an AI chatbot. By signing in with their Atmosphere login — applicable across any app operating on atproto, including Bluesky — users immediately encounter an interface that comprehends their preferences and interests due to the open system architecture shared among applications.
As Schneider explains, “You control it, you shape it, without having to write code or know how to set up these feeds.” The goal is to democratize the development process, allowing more users to contribute to the growing ecosystem above the existing structures.
A Focus on People-Centric AI
While Attie is inherently an AI product, its development is geared towards benefiting individuals rather than platforms. Graber highlights a shift in perspective; many large platforms use AI primarily to benefit themselves, prioritizing user engagement over personalized experiences. “We think AI should serve people, not platforms,” she affirmed, emphasizing user empowerment in building custom feeds and tools.
Future Developments and Funding
At its launch, Attie enables users to not only construct and view their personalized feeds but also indicates plans for future functionalities that would allow users to vibe-code their own social applications and tools. This versatility is part of a broader vision for the Atmosphere ecosystem, which Graber finds deeply engaging.

Financial Stability and Monetization Strategies
Bluesky recently secured $100 million in funding, providing stability and a three-plus-year runway for ongoing development. Schneider confirms that this funding opens the door to addressing significant challenges, such as implementing privacy controls and exploring monetization strategies for their burgeoning user base, which stands at 43.4 million.
While concerns over potential crypto integrations arose due to backing from crypto investors, Schneider assures users that this will not be a direction for the platform. Instead, potential revenue models include subscription services or tools for those wishing to host their own communities on atproto.
A Vision Similar to WordPress
Schneider envisions the Atmosphere’s potential akin to that of WordPress, proposing that a fully open system will foster a thriving ecosystem where decentralized applications and services can coexist and flourish.
“We hope that the Atmosphere can achieve similar success, drawing in a vast ecosystem of apps much like WordPress, which now generates over $10 billion a year,” he notes, underscoring a profound belief in decentralized social media as a solid future.
