Introducing the Nothing Phone (4a) Series: A Bold Redesign
Say what you will about Nothing, but the company certainly has bold and recognizable designs. The new (4a) series arrives with the latest evolution of those designs and shakes up the formula of the (3a) series.
Nothing Phone (4a) and Nothing Phone (4a) Pro
Design and Build Quality
The (3a) and (3a) Pro from last year were largely differentiated by their cameras. The new Pro model still offers a better camera than its vanilla sibling, but only just—now, it also stands out with a bigger display, faster chipset, better build, and a Glyph Matrix similar to the Phone (3) flagship.
The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro drops (3a)’s plastic frame and introduces a metal unibody design. It’s also slimmer at 7.95mm (down from 8.4mm) but weighs the same, despite the change in materials. The phone is rated IP65, which means it can survive submersion down to 25cm for 20 minutes, a touch below the usual IP67 ratings.

Performance Enhancements
The Pro model is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, promising a 27% increase in CPU performance, a 30% boost in graphics, and a significant 65% jump in AI performance over its predecessor. Equipped with fast LPDDR5X RAM (8 or 12GB) and UFS 3.1 storage options (128GB or 256GB), the new model features up to 147% faster read speeds compared to UFS 2.2.
To maintain performance, Nothing has installed a 5,300mm² vapor chamber over the chipset, making thermal performance a focal point.
Display Features
The most impressive visual feature of the Pro is its 6.83” 144Hz OLED panel, which peaks at 5,000 nits of brightness and offers a resolution of 1,260 x 2,800 pixels. Protected by Gorilla Glass 7i, this display also benefits from high-frequency PWM dimming at 2,160Hz, ensuring a top-notch visual experience.

Camera System Evolution
The camera capabilities have also seen some adjustments. The Pro features a 50MP Sony Lytia 700c sensor in the main camera, capable of 4K 30fps Ultra XDR video, combined with a periscope that houses a 50MP Samsung JN5 sensor equipped with 3.5x OIS. The ultra-wide camera remains at 8MP, unchanged from the previous model.

The standard Phone (4a) mirrors the Pro’s camera setup, but with a different main camera sensor. This model also provides 4K recording, albeit without the Ultra XDR feature.

Battery and Charging Capabilities
Both models come with a respectable 5,080mAh battery, slightly upgraded over their predecessors. They continue to support 50W wired charging and boast impressive battery longevity, retaining at least 90% of original capacity after 1,200 charge cycles.
Unique Glyph Interface
The (4a) Pro also introduces a new Glyph Matrix—a circular array of 137 LEDs, offering enhanced practicality compared to previous models. The vanilla model simplifies this with a Glyph Bar, comprised of 63 LEDs arranged in a line.

Software and Updates
Both devices run on Nothing OS 4.1, based on Android 16, and the company promises three OS updates and six years of security patches—maintaining the industry standard for support and updates.
