I really think that at under $700 / £700 there’s no better laptop you can buy, unless you really hate macOS. Now I’m a tad biased as I use the MacBook Air M2 myself; in fact, I’m using it to write this very article. But this little machine hasn’t let me down; I paid its full launch price (some £1,600) in the UK, so at way south of $1,000 / £1,000, it’s a real bargain.

So why do I love the MacBook Air M2 despite there being more recent models? Its compact size is brilliant for traveling, and its design looks great even with that display notch. The display is wonderful for an LCD panel, and the M2 chip still offers buckets of performance for everyday tasks. Plus, this machine simply sips power, meaning I regularly use it away from a power source.
In fact, I even consider the MacBook Air M2 a solid little gaming machine these days. My concern is that I think the MacBook Air M2 might be too good, leading Apple to merely iterate on it over the past two generations rather than innovate significantly.
